Hello I have fanfic ask game questions!
😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate?
👖 Are you a planner, plantser, or pantser? Is it consistent?
💻 Do you do research for your fics? (I know you do!!) What’s the deepest dive you’ve done?
1) Leaving chapters off on a cliffhanger!! Hehehe >D I'd hate it, too. Also sometimes having characters make decisions that aren't very nice... but like. That was the point.
2) I... don't know :'D I'm definitely not a pure planner and definitely not a pure pantser all the time. For stories up to, say... 15,000 words, I can usually do that without writing down a plan. (The general idea is in my head). For stories longer than that, I'll start jotting down a quick outline, or I'll write scenes (often out of order) and keep them until they come up. For really really long stories, I've tried outlining but eventually I come up to a point where I don't know what to do, so then I just write. So it becomes a cycle of planning-pantsing-planning-pantsing. And I have huge, long documents of facts, some very well organized, some not. Only once was I really able to use planning super effectively: when writing The Angel Breaker. I was coming up on the due dates and so I wrote bare bones outlines for what had to happen in the last arc. And then I sat down and banged 'em out. That's really rare for me (but I wish it wasn't).
3) Sometimes! Oh man, I wish I could remember the deepest dive clearly so I could give you a great answer. Just today I was trying to figure out how far in the future it will be when stars are so far apart, you can't see their light anymore (research suggests 12 billion years). I've looked up physics, quantum physics, geology, biology... I even looked up philosophy for a little bit of TEG once (I hate philosophy) (it was to make sure I got a Megatron-spoken insult right lel) . I try, haha. But... hmm... yeah, I can't think of the deepest dive 🤔 I did dive pretty far into the geological history of Rhode Island, once, for an Emily Wilde x Transformers crossover that will probably never happen. *opens the doc* oh, I also researched period dress and hairstyles for that fic. huh. I left placeholders for where I need to figure out things, like a species of tree Bambleby would have grown up with ("XYZ tree") and a specific kind of sedimentary rock ("ROCK").
…damn. That crossover ends unfinished. But it was fun to reread haha. I wish I knew how to end it so I could post it.
Did I answer the questions correctly? I think I did lol. Thank you for sending the ask!! ❣️
