“You want to know why Toxin never complains about me? Because I take my job seriously!” Scratch grabs the front of her jacket, pulling her close.
He doesn’t yell this time. He talks to her, quiet. “If you want to leave, it’s your choice. I don’t care, I’ll actually even cover for you maybe once or twice. But when Bedlam is asking for your head on a spike, I’m not going to defy them.”
He lets go of her roughly, shoving her away a bit in the process. He returns to his room without another word. Hazard stands and watches him walk. The word is spreading faster than she thought. If she wants to survive any longer, she has to put in more work for Shadow.
It hurts and she hates it. But survival is her main priority.
