When was the last time you saw Valerie Mulloy?
While students at Yates spilled into the campus for fall semester, glittering and punch drunk at back to school parties, Valerie’s friends lost sight of the girl at a Hastings House soiree. Valerie was hard to miss last night, taking shots and snorting lines off the precious rare books of Hastings house. Not the kind of behavior you’d expect from Dean Mulloy’s daughter, his one and only pride and joy. But Valerie has always been a controversial figure at Yates. The girl with grades so low they were in the decibels, a product of nepotism, her father the only reason she attends prestigious Yates University.
But Valerie has quickly made himself indispensable to the student body from the second she stepped foot on campus. Alison DiLaurentis in prime form. She’s well liked, a confidant, the center of attention anywhere she goes, the dark center of the universe. She’s useful. Need to find the answer’s to Friday’s test in Bio 101? She knows where the janitor stashes the keys to professor’s offices. Your regular dealer isn’t pulling through? Valerie can find you another number to text on Saturday night looking for Ritalin. She’s dated her way through the student body, using Tinder like a weapon. It’s like watching a black hole; you can’t look away, and the longer you stand around, the more likely you are to be pulled in. How she worms his way in, learning your secrets and then using them against you is almost something to be admired. The worst thing you’ve ever done, told in confidence to a friend, then used against you. She almost makes the gossip blog redundant.
You might have been relieved when you realize Valerie isn’t around tonight. Finally, a night free. I mean, she’s great, right? But you know how she can get. Then your stomach sinks. The odd string of disappearances on campus. Nothing at Yates in a coincidence anymore. The last time she was seen, she was sunken into her phone, watching messages and Snapchats rolls in from the gossip blog. You have to assume the worst now. Think back to what you know. The way she isn’t responding to texts. How Valerie is everywhere. How she makes it know she’s there. And then panic. She knows everything. The person you’ve entrusted with your secrets is nowhere to be found. And then, more importantly, where did she go?
