I finally managed to get Baldurs Gate running on my little laptop! In my first two hours of play I accomplished Many Things

- split the party (accidentally)

- got arrested (accidentally stole something. Still don't know what I stole)

- got Shadowheart killed by goblin ambush

- got my warlock bud killed by goblin ambush

- crit failed my attempt at Squirrel Friendship and got bit in the foot

- got bit in the foot again

- got my lovingly crafted ranger Tav killed after finding a secret cave on my own (see item one)

How do you make a nsfw story gender neutral (mostly in reference to your in progress alien x human story)

I try to do it by keeping specific pronouns out of any speech referring to the reader (similarly I also refuse to use Y/N because I feel like it completely breaks immersion), and because I'm also going body-neutral if I've said it's 'gender neutral', I just keep the, uh, 'terminology' vague.

It's harder work sometimes to write around it, and the results definitely won't suit everyone, but by not using gendered or biologically-specific terminology for the reader, I find (at least people have told me!) that it's more inclusive when I choose to do it that way. I don't always write gn readers though - sometimes my monsters only swing certain ways or I feel like writing something more specific for that prompt/setup.

Sort of related, but it's a similar idea to generally not describing my readers in physical detail (other than relative to the monster - the monster may be 'taller than you', but I usually I don't say that the reader is 'short'. I might say they 'stroke your hair' but I don't say how long your hair is or what texture it is). Experiences are clearly not universal, but I do what I can from my side to make the reader a relatively blank canvas.

Obviously that sadly doesn't work for everyone, and a second person narrative ('you') always requires some imagination, work, and concessions from the reader too, but if I've said 'gender neutral' then I try to do what I can to make it more universal to read in those stories.

One year progress!

I'm always hard on myself with my art. Whether it's because I look at other artists and I'm like "Well shit, my art is nothing compared to these god-level pieces". Then I look back at my old drawings and my drawing now and it makes me feel good for the progress I have made. It'll only get better with time and practice!
