@lerevers / shoko: ∗ o5﹕ sender comforts receiver in the aftermath of a nightmare .
it seemed so vivid... so in his face. like it could reach out and touch him. god, even the smells. the sounds. the violent sounds. the screams. then the silence. it was the silence that seemed to haunt him the most for in the silence he saw what was left of his friend... what was left of haibara.
puffy eyes opened as nanami jolted upright, breath heavy and hands shaking. his lower lip quivered as his eyes burned, trying to fight back the tears that threatened to expose themselves. how long had he been asleep? he didn't remember falling asleep. it couldn't have been long though as the shade from the tree still lingered, not having moved much at all. it felt like he had been out for hours but dreams... they say dreams only lasted a few seconds. what about nightmares though? how long do those last?
a shaking hand closed the book in his lap as tired brown eyes casted their gaze upwards, a hint of surprise lingering in the sadness of his gaze at the sight of shoko.
she didn't have to say anything for him to realize she had been there long enough to watch his fitful sleep. he had wished she hadn't been, but he knew she did. there was no trying to change that. there was actually a sharp feeling of guilt that cut him but he kept it hidden behind the sorrow. he knew the probably others grieved the same as him, but to be caught so openly grieving, it didn't feel right of him.
a part of him wanted to reach out and ask her how she was doing, but the words faltered and failed to escape parted lips. instead...
❝ i— i didn't see you there. ❞ his voice held stoic as he silently offered her a spot to sit, in case she wanted to.
