imagine being so fricking goshdarn talented that you perform wicked in your native language as elphie, then originate the role in german as well and THEN IF THAT WASNT ENOUGH, you perform it in english too
and sound so fricking amazing in all THREE LANGUAGES.
thats why Willemijn Verkaik is forever my favourite elphaba, because not only does she perform the role in three languages, her english rendition is in my opinion the best english rendition out there??? like of course she sounds the best in her native Dutch, understandable, but like? she is probs one of the best people to perform in english which is saying a lot since, well, you know... lots of people perform it in english.
*that* scene in bandstand, that scene after i got a theory, that scene where its just julia and donny on an empty stage and julia demands to know what happened to her husband-
IS ONE OF THOSE SCENES THAT IS SO GODDAM GOOD AND RAW AND REAL that i literally forget it’s acting
just UUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHH most emotional and raw scene in that entire show and probably the most heartbreaking because they have this really serious and heavy scene and it could be done so poorly and bad and make me cringe and its done so well that it doesnt feel like its acting and it comes so naturally and doesnt feel forced in the way its acted and EGH
it’s so beautiful
this is coming from someone who normally hates scenes like that bc how fake they feel
and mr cott literally produced that emotion 8 times a week live on stage and it can’t be half assed like
astonishing...
its defs one of my favourite scenes in... anything
(now im just raving over this scene go watch bandstand... or listen to it... im remembering why i rank it in my favourites)
Rating Train Stations by Aesthetics (and other various factors: part 3)
- a vogelmeister analysis -
Antwerp- 10/10. This was requested on the basis that I would love it and let me tell that person I absolutely bawled when I saw this. She is VERY GORGEOUS TO ME! She could slap me and I’d thank her. She looks like a majestic castle. In fact, someone could yeet her into the country, tell me it’s a castle, and I’d believe them.
Rome- 2/10. I really don’t know what to say about this, but I know I don’t like it. It’s too brutalist for my liking.
Olso- 7/10. I like it but it reminds me of brioche bread. Also it’s nothing new.
Cork City- 3/10. Reminds me of my hometown, and anything that remotely reminds me of there goes low. But it has small Irish town vibes and I stan that
Hamburg- 5/10. Is it really a vogel ranking if there’s not one German one there? All in all the only thing I like here is the clock tower. The rest is meh and kinda uninspiring.
Perth- 7/10. I hate that this has nice vibes. That’s all I have to say. I love the vibes of this and I hate that I love them. It’s probably the palm trees. It makes her look tropical.
Leipzig- 8/10. She looks so unassuming from the outside but really pretty on the inside. There’s no clock tower which I find dissapointing BUT the inside is nice so it’s good enough for me :) but not as nice as Antwerp.
Beijing- 7/10, mainly because I feel threatened by it.
Gießen- 9/10. I love that I’m getting requests! It makes me feel famous! Anyway on to the Gießen write up. She’s cute and pretty. I like her. I especially like her small European town vibes, it makes me feel safe. Would defs catch a train from here.
Belgrade- 8/10. Loses marks bc this is old Belgrade and I cannot fathom how they could replace it. she’s pretty.
its all fun and games until you’re doing german and you are trying to figure out the german word for stamp but you cant even think of it in english
