people can be fans of a group and not like the solo work released by every member of said group. and honestly? it just means that they’re truly releasing something that represents them as individual artists. the beauty of a group is taking so many people—their minds and values and tastes and artistry—and putting it together to create something that they couldn’t have possibly made on their own. the beauty of these same members exploring solo work is that they have the opportunity to showcases aspects of their artistry that simply just does not fit within all that goes on in the group. as soloist they are bound to create art that hasn’t been seen in the group before. as such, some people may not like every piece of solo work released. it’s no different than having group or genre preferences. it doesn’t mean the person is against a particular member or not truly supportive of the whole group. letting artists grow, expand and explore their individual artistry means allowing their audience to do the same in regards to exposure and preferences. they can both still come back to the same group and connect over the same art as before. and that, to me, is truly the beauty of it all. that people can find common ground; art to share.
