Of all the times to finally grow a pair and visit home.
It’s not like she had necessarily planned to visit Seattle prior to a massive hurricane. She and her therapist had finally made a breakthrough the previous week, and Abby finally felt ready to visit. It definitely helped that her therapist had to visit Washington State for a conference, and offered to foot the bill for Abby if she went. She wasn’t about to deny a free trip. It had been rough, certainly. She had been reamed through and through by her family for not visiting sooner, for essentially cutting everyone off and fucking off to North Carolina. Her grandmother, though, seemed perfectly fine with it. In fact, even in her weakened state, Abby’s grandmere told her that she couldn’t be more proud of Abby for the person that she had become. North Carolina allowed her to flourish in ways that Seattle never could. By the time she and her therapist left, she felt a weight lifted off her shoulders. A kind of weird serenity that she hadn’t felt in years. Only to be told that a hurricane had basically barred her from going home.
Abby and her therapist had been redirected to Charlotte, and while Dr Thorne was in the process of trying to get a rental car to drive them the near four hours to Wilmington, Abby had managed to run into one of her neighbors—a nursing student—who had evacuated before the storm and was helping a local hospital with those that had been injured in a car crash or had been misplaced during the storm. That’s where she found Grayson. It was a good thing, too, because she had presents for him and she still had all her stuff dragging along behind her (since she couldn’t get a fucking car home). It seemed like he needed the distraction, anyway, and she chattered away as she looked through her things to find Gray’s present, along with her switch.
“So I found out that the person who ran my favorite comic book store back in Seattle opened up a bakery, which is absolutely insane but I always knew they could bake. However, I did get these little babies,” she said, finally producing a box with a see through lid. She opened up the box, showing off the pokemon cookies she had bought for Gray. “I know it’s not the healthiest of snacks, but...you probably should eat something.”
