Assumption of Mary (15th of August) is a holiday in Croatia, and in Mali Iž there is a party, which traditionally involves tying a bunch of boats together, side-to-side, and sailing in formation ("alajo-vez"). Also, music & torches.
a pre-covid sketchbook page that I now coloured very hastily and from memory. the graffiti says “death to capitalism and ally mcbeal”
Iž is the name of the island. Mali Iž is the name of the village. Komoševa is the name of the bay.
small island by the name of Kudica
Painted a scene I watched on island Iž last August. The ship Zrmanja is a water-carrier, and brings fresh water to islands that have no water supply & no natural water sources (such as Iž).
The water is transferred from the ship to people's reservoirs by a long hose. This takes all day. Meanwhile, children decided to occupy and take over the ship for their own purposes.
Approximately A5 size, gouache.
Three views of Mali Iž, island Iž: Makovac, Knežak and Muće.
driving in the islands is always an adventure
