thinking about jack's folklore arc .. how his search for other spirits had him found out about how cruel humankind had become﹔ how he'd see wandering ghosts of children brushing past, news of adults not upholding their roles﹔ abandoning their children or bruising them. he feels something familiar stir so strongly within his chest, anger for the first time in decades. their anger would've brought the tempestuous of squalls, blizzards weaved around the conduct of his very finger tips.
it's the seed of anger that stems from deep—rooted grief, something left horribly unjustified during his life as human, how kids are not meant to be heard and only to be seen. nobody saw nor heard him, he won't let this generation of children ever feel the same injustice as he. jack wanted to act, even if they couldn't see him, he'll make his presence known.
it's these acts of justice through mischievous pranks ﹠ tales that lifted his name throughout the globe. he's been labeled as many things, a winter spirit, a cautionary tale, a mischievous trickster. they had only saw him through the actions of other people, no one's ever seen him long enough to question the reasoning for his methods. in the end, people had begun to spin their own rumors.
jack's reasoning and person had slowly devolved into one of senseless violence, taking lives just because it appealed to his "unforgiving nature." being misunderstood is worse than just being unseen. and he couldn't do anything to change the course of his story. he was blinded by anger, sure, but the kids who've caught a glimpse of him had told other wise. in the wake of his terrorizing, he'd care for the children, play with them, allow them to see him, have them hold his hand. but ultimately, it was fear that got him seen. they became afraid of what he could do, what he was capable of doing.
he wanted his story told from someone who knew him for who he was, personally. not from those whom he'd fought against. decidedly, he hung up the enactments of self—righteous execution, choosing to see peace over war. ( but of course, that didn't mean he isn't still capable of such destruction. )
this turned into. something. :D i'm not proofreading this nor making the writing look pretty, we go in RAW. is jack a vengeful spirit? a seasonal spirit? or a third thing. destined to be one with the stars. i personally love studying the parallels between jack frost and nightlight, since turning nightlight into what essentially would be pinocchio, and jack ultimately being nightlight's "true inner self," emotional, feeling and just pure, unapologetically human.
