Sorry, I don’t know how to split up a post from an ask. I did the best I could, but your icon was an unfortunate casualty.
Liu Shan nodded slowly, frowning ever so slightly as he gazed to observe his new surroundings. All he saw were trees, the moon cut out by the canopy of leaves above him. The fire by his side warmed his body slightly but it did nothing to warm his heart. This was not what he asked for. He did not ask to be stranded in the forest and he did not ask for all the murderers and bandits chasing after him.
Liu Shan sighed as he stared into the fire. It was a necessity to survive this harsh, cold night, but it could also attract unwanted attention. “We’ll need to sleep in shifts. It’s too dangerous here, we are too vulnerable.” Liu Shan glanced at Lu Xun. “Do you want to take the first shift or shall I?”
Lu Xun rubbed his hands together before almost putting his palms into the licking flames. The fire itself was of decent size, which was something he knew he spent too much time fussing over. Had the fire been too big, it would have easily been spotted, had it been too small and smoldering, it would have generated too much smoke and been easily spotted. The cold was intense in every direction, save the fire’s, and his fingers felt like they could become too brittle to work if he didn’t warm them.
His gaze shifted over to the King of Shu as he spoke, feigning attention as the obvious was stated and he tried to judge the situation further. They were both exhausted, he could feel it in his bones and at his very core just as he could clearly see it on the King beside him. Thinking back, neither of them had much rest since their capture by the brigands, and they had been running so hard since they had escaped neither of them really had much left to give. But, Boyan’s mind was alight with needs, and the adrenaline and fear still coursed through his veins. He’d not be able to welcome sleep if he tried. “Please, I would prefer the first shift.”
