A clock that is in the future is a person that has a hard time being late.

I’ve once read Erikson’s Stages of Development perhaps oversimplified as:
Identity – being a somebody
Capacity for intimacy – having a somebody
Experiencing generativity – helping a somebody
Acquisition of integrity – taking responsibility, achieving a somebody
Identity taking us through infant-hood, adolescence and puberty leaving the Quarter Life Crisis period put nicely at the Capacity for Intimacy Stage.
During a phonecall conversation from a 3rd friend, ‘You’re bored all the time because you don’t have any distractions! What do you do outside of work anyway?’
I responded by complaining that my major past times, which were centred around a subculture of fashion and music, were put to rest as they depended on a small community mostly based in London.
My friend immediately disregards my moaning, ‘I meant more of the male variety’.
From my first response you can easily see that my ‘having a somebody’ is not (and will most likely never be) on top of my priority list. Always a nice thought, but never a priority. Contrary to what Hollywood, Bollywood and Korean dramas would have you believe, romance, for me, is what my friend initially described it as - ‘a distraction’. Just another thing to do like education, career goals, earning an income - all of which take time and effort, both of which are valuable and exhaustible and not to be spent on just anyone.
Non mi manca più nessuno del passato, mi manca qualcuno che spero arriverà in futuro.
