Popeye was right: Spinach means energy!
Spinach could fuel the next wave of efficient renewable energy, so say researchers from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Tapping into a plant cell that uses sunlight to produce water and electricity may be a new method to convert solar power into usable hydrogen fuel. (more…)

The rise of Innovation Centers--redux
So over the past few weeks, there have been numerous sightings of companies proclaiming their introduction into the Innovation Center phenomenon. MetLife, Accenture, Wells Fargo, Diamond Foods are included in this gathering. The consulting firms Altimeter Group (who recently announced its acquisition by Prophet) and Capgemini also just released their perspective on the subject in a study called ‘The Innovation Game’.
In a recent Direct Marketing article, Al Urbanski references some key findings from this recent study and highlights the conundrum I’ve been talking about here for some time (and reiterated by Brian Solis of Altimeter Group: if building an Innovation Center (or a culture of Innovation) is not starting from the top-down, the chance for success can be difficult. The way to circumvent this, possibly, is to have a strong internal advocate showing the way to prove Innovation can fundamentally change an organization’s bottom line (which is what those at the highest levels are most interested in most instances).
The fundamental building block into establishing an Innovation process and/or Center starts at the internal (corporate) level. That belief is the foundation for the i-CORE process that Metamorphic Strategies offers its clients; without that corporate buy-in as well as internal advocates pushing the envelope, ‘innovation’ will be nothing more than another adjective that executives use to describe their company and cannot become a living, breathing and actionable process.
Here’s hoping that C-level execs and those with the ability to influence internal policy are starting to take note.
