AGE CANON:
Robin is 6 and Bran is 7 in book one. For convenience sake I like to think of them as being the same age give or take a few months. That being said, I stick by that age assessment for the show. Which is [one] of the reasons I chose a different actor (the other being the amount of content and overall vibe I’m portraying). So season 8 Robin is probably 16-17 and I’m going to stick with 17.
So for threads taking place in season 8, please don’t picture that small child from many seasons ago. This little Robin is now a Falcon...even if his wings don’t work.
season eight headcanons
my main verse based on episodes 1, 2 & 3:
Winterfell — Robin is trying to prove himself as a capable and proper Lord. Considering how fragile he was and what was done to him it’s reasonable that everyone wants him to stay at the vale. He’s alone. The only other people he knows and trusts (Sansa and Lord Royce) are at Winterfell. Even with the dead approaching he’s only going to FEEL safe being NEAR THEM. So I don’t see him staying at the Vale or at the very least he would go to Winterfell and try/argue to stay there. He would have arrived before Jon and Dany went to Winterfell.
He’d probably send more fighting men to Winterfell and accompany them as they march North.
Hunting — It relaxes Robin. Much like knitting would for some people. He can concentrate and be intricate with his actions and everything has a cause and affect and he finds that soothing. If he’s heading North it’s likely they’d have to stop and hunt to keep him at ease and it also benefits for bringing more supplies to Winterfell.
Learning — Robin would either be by Lord Royce or Sansa’s side and most likely they would be guiding and tutoring him as they handled all their leadership affairs.
Tyrion — Robin is obviously uncomfortable around Tyrion and will usually keep himself at a distance and not look at him. Mostly because he tends to trigger memories of his mother he’d rather not recall.
Jaime’s Trial — It amuses me to think he’d be sitting with the rest of his family and making some off-hand comment about if they were in the Vale they could throw him through the moon door. Part of it would be a joke but considering things I feel like some people would be all shifty eyes at him. >__>
Independence — Robin considers the Vale and the Riverlands to be part of The North now. The Riverlands since they declared for Robb and The Vale since he declared for Sansa and Jon. He supports their independence.
The crypts — If he stays in Winterfell (most likely due to it being too late for him to leave) he’d be placed in the Crypts. Lord Royce probably arms him with a bow and dragon glass arrows and advises him to protect those he’s in the crypts with as a means persuading him. Robin is also not stupid, he can’t fight and knows he’s a liability on the field.
Final hours — He’s probably with Royce who’s trying to subtly sprinkle in some last minute wisdom onto Robin in case he doesn’t make it. He’s also probably telling Robin stories about Jon Arryn and it’s probably the first time he’s hearing anything genuine about his father and able to retain it.
Fight for the Dawn — Robin is in the crypts while the battle is going on. When the dead in the crypt stir he uses his bow and dragon glass arrows until they run out. Towards the end he has a seizure and is ushered to the very back of where everyone is hiding until the night King is taken out.
The Dawn — As the survivors emerge he realizes Yohn Royce is nowhere to be found among the survivors. This BREAKS him and he cries while he is urged to relax or risk another seizure. It’s the first time since it was discovered he was poisoned that he accepts a low dose of sweetsleep for the nerves. THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE but based on the fact that I don’t see Royce in the promo and he was at the front and then nowhere to be scene at the rest of the battle I assume he is dead.
Given the recent anniversary of GOT I wanted to sit for a moment and consider...
...if my Robin where living in the canon of the show where do I see him a year from that ending? It’s a little difficult, considering a lot of my Robin’s connections disregard the show, as do I, but I thought it would be a interesting exercise none the less.
Without further ado...
ONE YEAR POST SEASON EIGHT, AN AU.
The Valemen thought that war was behind them, that sonnets and poems about the honorable KNIGHTS OF THE VALE would soon be recited throughout the mountainous region. Peace in the East, however, had not come so easily. Robin had inherited a broken region still healing from the hold of Petyr Baelish and the whispers spread about his health.
On the way back to the Eyrie after voting King Bran onto the Iron Throne, remnants of Little Finger’s loyalist made an attempt to his life. Occurring at the base of the Mountains of the Moon, wounded, he fled. It was a Moon sister that felt compelled to help him. With his wounds cauterized she took him back to her clan where he wasn’t known as the Lord of the Vale but Robert the outsider; a spoil of Una, daughter of Ulf, the leader of the Moon
He fetched them ale and carried their weapons for almost three moons, living among them. He watched them survive off what little they had, return back from raids with only what was needed. Very unlike the stories he had heard about them. Violent, sure, but only out of necessity just so they could keep to their old ways and gods.
Meanwhile, the Queen in the North has sent aid to Lord Royce who continues to search for Robin and politically fight off others who wish to name a new Lord of the Vale.
Having grown close with Una, she insist he go on a raid with her. Its here that a high Lord recognizes him. It is later revealed this Lord held no loyalty for him and instead rounded others who shared the same sentiment and led an attack on the Mountain Clans. Seizing an opportunity, Robin reveals his identity; offering something no other Lord of the Vale has in exchange for his life...peace and respect.
“You are Valemen, no different than I...better perhaps. You could kill me now, as it has been done over and over when our two sides meet, but I will not fight you. You’re my people too.”
The Usurpers are met with sharp blades but their deaths only fanned the flames; the Son of Jon Arryn has fallen and dared to welcome savages into their territory, gave them lands, and positions of power. He is even marrying one and making her brother his guard.
A year later after the Crowning of King Bran, The Vale is still settling in to their new world; a broken region Lord Robin is trying to mend and progress all the while surrounding himself with people he COULD trust. He sends a raven of apology to the Queen of the North, wishing he didn’t have to miss the anniversary of their victory but invites her to his marriage ceremony to Una of the Moon Brothers.
Robin is very emotionally and spiritually dependent on the people he trusts. Without one of these people in his company he is often noted for being bland and cold. A lot of this has to do with how his mother was raising him and in turn how others would treat/look at him. Those he trusts are the people who sought out his well-being despite his actions as a boy.
If you’re looking to ask the Lord of the Vale a favor, best do it with someone he trusts in his company.
Robin is fully aware of what he was like as a child. He carries an invisible weight of embarrassment and regret of his past actions and lack of empathy. He knows he has his mother to blame but its difficult not to put all the fault on his own shoulders.
It is also not something he has been able to easily shed. Often his knuckles are tight in a grip of self control, trying to keep agitation in check. What had once been spawned from continuous pain and distress became a custom he is constantly fighting against.
If he silently storms out of a room its to stop him from doing or saying something regretful. He needs ambient sounds (like fire cracking or the cries of the wind) to sooth him.
Robin suffered from frequent "shakes" when he was younger. These are actually seizures due to the toxins he was given. They are not as frequent when the dosing stops but they do still occur during times of great stress that he is unable to control.
When he's anxious or deep thought, Robin tends to rotate the ring on his left index finger that once belonged to Jon Arryn. It originated back when the ring was still too big for him.
