Closed Starter || Dragon’s Tale (event)

There was a book he needed. He even knew where to get it. Upon hearing of the dragon’s riddle challenge that had befallen the Academy, having read and even copied down the riddle, Ren knew exactly which book he had needed. He didn’t know whether or not it would help him, but it was better than nothing. In reality, it was a book he had checked out before, having read through it in just a few days. An in-depth encyclopedia of the most well-known magical creatures that ever walked the realms. Inside were tales, illustrations, even simple facts about dragons. And if Ren had any hope of conquering the riddles, he would need to know his challenger.

In the magical creatures section on the library, Ren found the book he was looking for. It was a little on the large side, but mostly on the very thick side. It had to be, to hold so many pictures and facts about so many different creatures. The elf was bereaved to see, however, that it had been reshelved just out of his reach. Even on the tips of his toes and leaning precariously against the shelving, Ren couldn’t even touch the book with his fingertips. He humphed in frustration, until he realized there was someone a good bit taller than him nearby.

“Excuse me!” Ren whispered at the tall stranger. He pointed up at the book. “Do you think you could help me get that down?”

Self Para || Riddler (Dragon’s Riddle Event)

“Fire?”

“Someone’s quick off the draw.” The dragon snorted, golden eyes seeming to gleam in the young elf’s direction. “Congratulations, you’ve won the dragon’s treasure.” With that said he reached into the breast pocket of his charcoal jacket to hand over the key that opened the glass box. “Be careful with what’s inside. Dragon bones are heavier than they look.” 

Ren took the key from the dragon with stars in his eyes. He was shocked. The winner of the riddle contest. The elf hadn’t imagined that he would actually win the contest. He had mostly entered for the fun of it. But here he was on his way to the first floor of the Academy to claim his prize. It felt like a dream, like he was floating the whole way to the front desk. Part of him thought it might be a trick. That he would put the key into its sister lock and it wouldn’t turn. An elaborate prank. But when he got to the glass box and but the key into the lock, it turned. The lock clicked open and his prizes waited for his taking.

The first was the skull. It was immense. Ren tried to lift it like he would any other skull of its size and apparent density, but it didn’t move. It was like the skull was made of solid metal. With both hands, the little elf managed to lift the skull out of the box, but he wouldn’t be able to carry the other items along with it. Ren set the skull down on the desk beside the box and locked the box back up. This would keep his prizes safe until he returned. After slipping the key into his pocket, the elf lifted the skull again, hauling it all the way to the fourth floor of the Ignis dorm and struggling with the door when he reached his dorm room. He finally managed to get inside and laid the skull on the bed when he did. He didn’t really think it would be so easy to damage the skull, but he didn’t want to find out and then face Ben’s wrath. With the huge skull back in his dorm, Ren returned to the Academy building to claim his other prizes. As he walked, he wondered just where he would put the skull exactly. Hang it above the fireplace, perhaps.

The second was the gold plated dragon’s fang necklace. This treasure he slipped easily over his head, where it sat somewhat heavily against his chest. Not so heavily that it would bother him, but heavy enough to make it’s presence known. It was probably extremely valuable, like all the treasures. But Ren had no intention of doing anything besides keeping them. The gems he could perhaps sell if he was ever so desperate, but the rest of the treasures were priceless artifacts as far as Ren was concerned. Not something to be carelessly pawned away for extra cash.

The third was the dagger made of a dragon’s claw. That certainly might be useful if he managed to improve his skill with daggers. Which was his aim after all. After some more practice with Hyunseung, Ren was sure he would be skilled enough to be worthy of wielding the dagger. Until then, Ren would practice with it in his downtime and keep it safe in his dorm.

The last was the large pouch of gemstones. This he took easily in the hand not occupied with the dagger. Later the elf would open it and find all manner of gems, both precious and beautiful mixed together. But for now he simply took the bag and left the key with the glass box. With his new possessions, his winnings, Ren returned to his dorm yet again to store them safely away.

He was proud to say the least. The elf did not consider himself to be especially...well, anything. He was good with a bow and he was good at picking out lies from truths, but that was all. He didn’t think he was particularly beautiful or clever or anything else. But apparently, along with his seemingly incredible luck, he had been clever enough to answer enough riddles to win yet another contest. Part of him wanted to celebrate, to tell his friends of his successes. The other didn’t want to seem like he might be bragging. So he decided to remain mostly silent about his win, allowing himself to retain only his prideful grin. Perhaps he would treat himself to ice cream later.

Riddle Me This, Part 2, Results.

Excuse the delay in posting the results but we have had a tie between two of those participating and I have been coming up with something to test their riddle solving abilities. Interesting, isn’t it? Shall we pit them against one another in a winner takes all, no holds barred match? 

As fun as it would be to see the both of them fight it out I’ll have their challenge at the end of this post. But first, the scares and the answers to the riddles posted earlier.

Unsurprisingly, no one got all five riddles correct so there will be no extra points for that but this is more interesting anyway since we have a tie.

Now, for the fun part. @manato-ia and @ravan-ia are going to have a little competition between one another. Of course, it’s going to be another riddle because what is a dragon without his riddles? Bored, that’s what he is. There are no consequences for this riddle, you can guess however many times you want but the first to get it correct wins. Simple as that.

IA Dragons Riddle Part 2.

Well, well, it seems as though we have quite the few riddlers in this school. Many guesses were made and while most were incorrect there was a rush of correct answers with the hint given.. Maybe I was a bit liberal with the hint as it made the answer obvious but none the less, most of you would be dead by now had I been offering such riddle as my old self. Shame, only one student would have lived to tell the tail.

But, without further ado, I give you the students that cracked my riddle:

And to those of you curious, the answer was “Treasure.” Seems pretty obvious, right?

With the number of people having given the right answer I see it best that I do a winner takes all round. I am going to give you five riddles and whoever gets the most right wins, in the event of a tie, there will be a sudden death round were first to answer correctly is the winner. But, in the interest of fairness and really, just to create a little competition I am going to award both @choiminki-ia​ and @seline-ia​ and extra point for having solved the riddle without the need of any hints. But do not worry, I will have a few ways for you to get bonus points and to shall we say, reduce the handicap.

Firstly, the riddles, simple enough, just tell me who or what I am describing from around the academy:

Where you have two, I have eight. For every one, I have three. While yours is red, Mine is blue.

I am constant, Yet ever changing. My inhabitants have no voice, Yet, some swear they are alive.

Now, just to be clear, you must submit all guesses at once and you have one attempt to get them right. No second or third chances this time.

Self Para/Possible Open Starter

Dragon’s Riddle

Ren had read the riddle, of course. And then again. And then again and again. Until his head ached with possible answers. Something that could be held but never parted from? It seemed like an impossibility! The elf shook his head, giving up. He had never considered himself that clever. As far as he was concerned he was a perfectly average snow elf. So he had walked away from the riddle with the words ringing half-remembered in his head.

Until.

He had been reading through one of his many library books that he had checked out from the school, laying stomach down on the bed. The pictures were beautifully painted and his curious mind was somewhat at ease with the new knowledge that was etching itself into his memory. It was then that he remembered the dragon’s riddle, flipping to the page in his book about dragons.

And then.

Of course. The words of the riddle ribboned through his mind, each relevant word echoing. Of course. It was obvious to him now. Without even closing the book, Ren shot out of his dorm room and flew down the halls, all the way to where he knew the dragon would be. He had the answer.

And when he arrived, he had found that he was correct.

When he left the dragon’s room, Ren had been shocked. He got it right! On his first try! Having completely given up and stumbling upon the answer almost entirely by accident! How incredible, he thought as a huge smile took over his face. He settled for laughter, like bells ringing through the air as he went to find somewhere to sit down and think.

Because he certainly wasn’t done thinking. Not yet.

The Riddler. (IAEvent)

For the past few days Ben had been met with the same set up during his walk from his room towards his classroom and each time he laid eyes on the skull placed inside its glass chamber he stopped and he smiled. It might not have been too evident but he was happy to have people getting themselves involved in this little challenge for as bulky as he might have been he had always held intelligence and wit above that of brawn so getting the students to use their minds and think outside the box was something that brought him great joy. Who knew he could actually have fun getting involved with people? Certainly not him.

He stared down at his own cursive, golden eyes seeming to dance over the riddle he had thought up for this little challenge. There hadn’t been many to get it correct, but that was the point, wasn’t it? It wouldn’t be any fun if every half-wit could figure it out, there was no challenge to that. Maybe he would give a hint as to what the answer was eventually but for now he was quite happy to leave them scratching their heads.

“It seems the old beast has yet to lose his touch.” He poke to himself, amusement clearly having taken over his tone.
