She had been hoping to go unnoticed. Nessarose sat upright once more, barefooted and feeling particularly foolish. It had seemed a good idea at the time, when she had been alone and the little tin of ointment set on her bedside table ‘just in case’, and yet in Elphaba’s presence the remedy seemed useless and any tingling sensation it had produced merely a figment of her imagination - or, worse still, a sign that the stuff was possibly an irritant. Her legs were as still as they’d ever been, and now smelt faintly of dirt. 

"Nanny had heard of some herbal substance or another and told me that it should repair muscles…" She wrinkled her nose, trying to force the cynicism that Elphaba seemed to have an endless supply of. "Pagan nonsense, of course, but it seemed best to appease her."

Oh, Elphaba. I don’t know. You’re well aware that I must oppose to it on religious grounds, and I thought you wouldn’t begrudge me that - we’ve always had our differences when it comes to religious matters. And you know that I love you and I’m very fond of Glinda. Of course I want you both to be happy.

I suppose I do miss you both. It feels like you’re closer to each other now than you ever have been to me. It’s rather lonely when I’m trapped up at Colwen Grounds.
