I Am My Own Best Teacher

Slowly I am coming to terms with the fact that I am in fact a new breed of witch, mystic, healer, and metaphysicist. I have always been a seeker of knowledge. What I have realized during my quest for the knowledge of old is that some of it simply does not resonate entirely with me. Now, I am by no means saying that there is not great inspiration, wisdom, and knowledge to gain from studying traditions of old. What I am saying is that I find that there is also so much more to learn. To me those traditions can be important in establishing a foundation, however, the ability to ebb, flow, and adapt is also important.

I have never been one to like labels of any sort because I feel like things and people are constantly in flux. The labels that we use are simply a shortcut to explaining the complexity of everything. I have found a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and inspiration in a number of traditions and religions, however I always felt as if something was missing. The reason for this is that I don't believe one religion or spiritual practice holds all that is necessary to assist us along our path. For me different religions and spiritual practices have provided pieces to the puzzle of my life, nonetheless, they are not the puzzle itself.

When I say that I am new breed this is what I mean. I have had many teachers who each provided me with a lesson that I needed at that time. Each teacher that I have had in my life in any capacity simply taught me the importance of relying on myself, my own abilities, and my own spiritual team. The reliance of people outside of myself has simply led to disappointment, frustration, sadness, and confusion.

The overall lesson for me is that I do not need nor want simply one teacher and one way of doing things. I simply go with the flow and do what feels right. Sometimes I feel the need to chant Buddhist chants. Other times, I decide to listen to Native American chants. At times, I feel the need to connect with the goddess or the angels. There is so much available to us that I refuse to have any type of spiritual or religious tradition restrict what I can or cannot do. I do what my spirit leads me to do at any given time. Things seem to turn out much better this way.
