Marathon of a week
We are all busy. When I am reflecting on my week, I keep thinking, nobody cares. However, I want to save this week. For the even harder ones, when I need a reminder that hard work is rewarded.
I am a lucky girl. Blessed. Luck is merely when preparation meets opportunity. Build meaningful relationships. Hustle. When a 102-degree fever knocks you on your tail, listen to your body and stay in bed until 2pm two days in a row.
Fast forward to Friday. Two canceled appointments and lots of sleep delivered me fever free and puny for the #SheCanSummit Catalyst Awards. I had been so excited to celebrate my dear friend Deanna Ley, who was winning one of the Catalyst Community Awards. No one is more deserving. Many of us faked it til we made it together. Such a great time with my tribe.
A magical moment happened at the end of the night. A young lady had presented an award to two of the #SheCan GLAMM girls. I could tell she was special. And I wanted to help this girl.
Shortly after one of my sweet friends won my headshot package that was raffled off. He handed it to me and said give it to someone who needed it. I immediately walked over and introduced myself to this sweet kid. I cannot WAIT to set up her shoot and introduce you to her.
Fast forward to the #SheCanSummit. Public speaking makes me anxious. I have never lead a professional breakout session. Lots of professional meetings and such. But, not much more than here’s our P&L and let’s come up with ideas to make it better.
Seven beautiful souls came into my room. I started the class with this:
1) I’m going to cry at some point or two today. Know that.
2) I have prayed for each and every one of you since the day I found out I was teaching. You are here for a reason, and you’ll get to decide why after you put up with me.
3) We are going to dive deep. It isn’t going to be cute. And it's going to be hard. But, that’s ok. Only share when you feel comfortable.
And then I prayed. And then it was basically 11:45am, and the class was over. I am overwhelmed by how well it went. God is good, even when Satan tries to steal my attention with anxiety.
Then came my heart and soul....my Cupid’s event. St. Louis Cupid’s Homecoming was sponsored by Dr. Joe of Whole Child Pediatrics. He is such an incredible and didn’t miss a beat when he first heard about our event. He knew he wanted to be involved.
I had been looking forward to this for months. And so many things that could go wrong this last week...well, it sure did. Again, luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Charles saved the day and delivered the Royalty sashes. My girl Shannon showed up to help me decorate so I wasn’t alone. Bryan got there in time to move chairs, so I didn’t deplete what little energy I had left. I had enough brilliant volunteers with Esther, Andy, Brett, Lori, and Florence to be able to just coordinate, get updates and pivot, and just enjoy my hard work.
Dancing with my partner in crime Wes of Prismatic Events, I finally got to fully take in what we’d done. I had one of my favorite people counting a WAD of cash just from little things that brought donations.
Our goal was $3000. We made just over $2200. Did you miss the fun? Please consider donating here. And make sure you do not miss out on our brief run Feb 8th. Run. Walk. Or stay inside where it is warm. Just come in your bedroom best ready to party. You register at the donation link, too!
I could not have survived this week without #MyTribe. From orange juice deliveries, text messages, showing up to my class so I had a familiar face, handling things for me so I didn’t cuss someone out....and just reminding me I had it.
I get by with a little help from my friends.
