Literally Simon in the AATC fic I'm working on:
My wife, Brianne "Bree" Brozey that I lovingly call "my penguin" was a fun, vibrant, outgoing, and die-hard athletic enthusiast when on 3/11/11, two days before she was to compete in her 5th LA Marathon, she was horribly sidelined from an on-set injury that has tragically and forever changed my...
It has now been almost six years since Brianne Brozey's neck injury and she is still in need of help with medical and living expenses. She is known for her voice work in anime and videogames, including Jim Hawking in Outlaw Star, Jr. in Xenosaga, Tsukasa in .hack//SIGN, and Tommy Himi & Calumon in Digimon. A rest for Simon (An Alvin and the chipmunk's series)
Chapter 1: The Morning:
Set after Dr Sleep
It was a typical Wednesday morning in the Seville household, however this particular Wednesday morning was important to the family for one particular reason.
There was only two more days until summer vacation.
Which meant freedom...no more lessons, no more homework...no more anything
That morning Dave, Alvin and Theodore were sitting at the kitchen table and tucking into the breakfast Dave had just made for them.
''Two more days Theo! Two more days and we'll be free...I'm talking no school...no homework...no Miss Smith...BOOM! Summer bliss.'' Alvin said through a mouthful of eggs.
Theodore giggled
''Yeah...no crowded hallways, no math books...we can sleep in every day.'' He nodded.
''You can Theo...I myself have plans for this summer.'' Alvin said.
Dave raised an eyebrow.
''I shudder to think what those are.'' He remarked, looking at Avin.
''Dont worry Dave, they're totally legal.'' Alvin said.
Dave didn't look reassured in the slightest.
''That's not as reassuring as you think it is Alvin.'' Dave said.
Before Alvin could reply there was the shuffle of tiny footsteps and the oldest of the chipmunks, Simon Seville wandered into the kitchen.
...and he looked AWFUL.
His blue pajamas were rumpled from sleeping all afternoon yesterday and all night too, his fur looked as though he'd tried to straighten it but gave up halfway through.
And his eyes...there weee massive shadows under his eyes.
The same ones that had been there for two weeks now, and somehow (after almost full afternoon and night of sleep) didn't look any better than the night before...if anything they looked even clearer than they had before.
Dave still felt his blood boil as he remembered the reason why Simon was in such a state.
Dr Anders.
The so called ''professor'' who's online lectures Simon that took to listening too...lectures about overriding the need to sleep.
Absolute rubbish...but Simon in typical Simon fashion became fascinated and invested his full attention into the lectures.
And now he was paying the price for it.
And too add insult to injury Anders had revealed to be a fraud...a dangerous fraud at that.
Alvin had been furious when he found out the truth that the professor Simon had practically been hero-worshipping for the past month was revealed to not even have any valid credentials.
Even Theodore..sweet, forgiving Thedre had been angry when he found out the truth.
Dave had long since said if you could anger Theodore, then you had REALLY messed up.
''Morning.'' Simon yawned as he sat down at the table, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand.
For probably the first time in his life Alvin didn't make a joke at Simon's expense...instead he quietly said a plate of cheesy scrambled eggs and toast (Simon's favourite breakfast) in front of him with a sympathetic smile that barely hid the clear worry on his face.
''Here you go Si...you look wrecked.'' He said.
Simon let out an exhausted groan and rubbed his eyes again.
''I feel like a truck ran me over...reversed...then ran me over again.'' He groaned as rubbed his eyes, they felt as heavy as lead and his vision was slightly blurred as he tried to properly focus on his breakfast..
Dave flinched at that comment.
Simon was prone to making snarky and/or sarcastic comments when tired or irritable...but he knew Simon well enough to know that he wasn't exaggerating.
If Simon said he felt that way, then he definitely felt that way.
And Dave wasn't surprised at all.
After all, two weeks of practically no sleep would do that to anyone.
Theo looked at Simon worriedly.
''Simon...you really don't look well.'' He said worriedly.
Simon gave Theodore a tired smile that didn't seem to quite reach his eyes.
''I'm alright Theo I..'' Simon yawned again...''..I'm alright.'' He said.
Theodore didn't look convinced.
Simon reached out to grab his fork and he'd barely picked it up when suddenly a sharp spike of pain shot through his hand.
''Ah....!'' He gasped, his fork dropping to his plate with a loud clatter as Simon clutched his hand to his chest.
''Ow...!'' He winced gritting his teeth in pain, eyes squeezed shut tightly.
Dave got to his feet immediately.
''Simon...let me see your hand!'' Dave said urgently, going over to Simon.
Still grimacing Simon held out his injured hand and Dave took it gently in both of his.
It didn't look broken...but it definitely looked bruised, and a little swollen too.
And then...Dave remebered.
He remembered how the previous morning Simon had ran out into the street, terrified and exhausted beyond reason.
He had angrily slapped the hood of a (thankfully unmoving) car in the middle of the road...yeah, that would definitely need to be checked out.
Dave silently cursed himself for not mentioning that to the doctor when he came over yesterday, but the last two weeks had been such a whirlwind Dave had honestly struggled to explain everything to the doctor.
''Really David really, how did you manage to forget that.''
Focusing back on the situation in front of him, Dave looked at Simon.
''Simon...you're not going to school today.'' He said firmly.
Simon immediately looked at Dave with a look that could only be described as pure horror.
''What...no...I-I still have work to complete....there's only two more days until break....I just need...I just need some coffee...!'' Simon protested.
Dave immediately cut him off.
''Absolutely not Simon!'' Dave exclaimed.
Seeing the stressed look on the oldest chipmunk's face Dave immediately switched to a gentler tone.
''Simon, you haven't slept for two weeks...you can't just fix that with caffeine.'' He said.
''But I have assignments to hand in!'' Simon protested.
''I'll make sure they're handed in.'' Dave told him.
''What about my science project!''
''I'll have Alvin and Theo hand it in.''
''But what about my homework. I have to finish...''
''Simon!''
It was rare Dave ever had to even slightly raise his voice at Simon, but whenever he did...Simon immediately knew Dave was being serious.
''Simon you wouldn't make it through first period...nevermind an entire day. You need a break, and you need it now.'' Dave said firmly
Simon stayed silent.
Alvin and Theodore then spoke up.
''He's right Simon...You already look like you're about to pass out in your eggs.'' Alvin said sounding unusually firm.
''He's right Simon...you need sleep.'' Theodore said gently.
Simon opened his mouth to protest then immediately closed it...as much as he hated admitting it, he knew Dave and his brothers were right.
He was completely exhausted, his head throbbed, his hand ached so much holding a pen would be a struggle....and just keeping his eyes open took effort.
"Okay." He sighed picking up his fork with his uninjured hand.
Dave smiled.
"Good, you eat as much of those as you can alright... I'm going to call the doctor and arrange a quick checkup." Dave said.
Simon nodded, already chewing on a large mouthful of eggs.
