Monster from SAVIO SAVIO EP2 LOVE&REVELATION remixed by Ian Hultquist
Ian and I met each other in one of the strangest ways two musicians can be meet, as he was leaving a band I was just about to start working for. It’s like shaking the ex-husband’s hand as you’re unloading your U-Haul into his old house. With the kids watching. That said, Ian and I have become friends not just because of our love of science fiction, video games, and Jazzmasters. Over the years, I’ve walked away from situations that others might have second guessed, either because I was bored or because I was fed up or just because I wanted something new. So, I have great admiration for Ian taking that risk in leaving a position in an established band to strike out on his own as film composer. He’s worked on a number of documentaries like The First Monday in May as well as a number of indie films, Animals and The Diabolical. After he moved to Los Angeles from New York, I’ve had a chance to work with him on a number of string arrangements like the one for Burning Bodhi. It is remarkable the way he and his wife, Sofia, have carved a place out for themselves in Los Angeles in the last two years. Watching them boldly acclimate to LA makes me feel like I’m still dragging my feet. Check out the remix he did of what might be my most ambitious song, “Monster.”
