I just want to say that In A Strange Land is all the proof I’ll ever need that fanfic is a legitimate literary form. It’s more lovingly crafted and thought out than a lot of professionally published works I’ve read. It should be in the fanfiction hall of fame. I come back to it on occasion, especially now before a new season is about to drop just to remind myself that there is a better more interesting version of ST out there that is more canon than actual canon to me. My only regret is that because it was a post s2 fic we never got to see your version of Robin. With your incisive character break downs and explorations I would have loved to have seen what she would have become under your deft touch. But that’s just pie in the sky if wishes were fishes types of thoughts. As it stands, In A Strange Land is perfect and I hope it goes down as one of the legendary fics. I know I recommend it to anyone who will listen to me shouting from the rooftops. Anyways, much love and thanks again for giving us a diamond.
Thank you so much!
Honestly, I'd say my absolute biggest regret is that I never got to write anything with Robin or Eddie (my second biggest is that I couldn't use Your Love by the Outfield since it didn't come out till '86) - I had about 80 pages worth of sequel written after S3 that was loosely based on Adventures In Babysitting crossed with The Low Men In the Yellow Coats/More Firestarter with Steve and Robin ( Lucas, Erica and Dustin in tow ) chasing after a Cali bound runaway Mike. I really liked writing for her but I had to just accept that I had lost my groove and was writing against the grain of the show instead of with it.
I'm so glad that In a Strange Land is good on it's own though and thank you for recommending it to people! It honestly blows me away whenever I get comments on it - when I wrote it I was thrilled when I hit 100 views - I never thought I would have people reading it years later, so thank you again, Constant Reader :D
