ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR FRIDAY 6/19

Hello iBody Students! We are just about halfway done with this year’s session!

Students registered for the morning session: Please arrive at 8am to Regnery Auditorium on B1. We will be viewing an interactive surgery.

PLEASE CHECK IN WITH LISA OR CAROLINE WHEN YOU ARRIVE.

Do not forget to pack a lunch or bring money to buy something in the cafeteria- at 11:30am, we will eat our lunches together in the B2 classroom and discuss our morning observation experiences.

Regular session begins at 12:30pm.

What inspired us today (6/18)

The Radiation/Oncologist impacts so many people. She worked so hard throughout school and I am hopeful that I can do the same someday.

-How Dr. Mayor cares so much about others. It is clear that he went into medicine for the right reasons.

-Dr. Bruneau and the patience that she had throughout the surgery, especially when she was faced with a challenge.

What moved and touched us today (6/18)

-When the nurse from Radiation/Oncology started to cry because she couldn’t imagine her life without nursing.

-The video about how easy it is to drug a person’s drink. It scared me, but also showed me that everyone needs to be much more aware.

-Dr. Mayor’s talk about his transition from taking care of himself to focusing 100% on his patients.

What Surprised Us Today (6/18)

-There are one million nephrons in each kidney, and each section has its own system that regulate secretion.

-How much can be done with the radial artery in the cardiac catheterization lab.

-How calm the doctor was able to stay while problem-solving during a challenging surgery.

Those registered for the morning sessions: please be in the B2 classroom at 8am. We will split you up into small groups for your observational experiences.

What Inspired Us Today (6/16)

-The fact that a surgeon can hold a beating heart in his or her hands.

-The EMT presentation. I am now considering being an EMT in college.

-Dr. Hodakowski managed to connect with each and every one of the students while maintaining a calm demeanor throughout a seemingly stressful operation.

What Moved and Touched Us Today (6/16)

-The enthusiasm that Dr. Hodakowski had for teaching us and how engaged and knowledgable he was.

-Learning about one counselor’s experiences as an EMT and how selfless she must be to do this job.

-Dr. Ryan’s experience in medical school. He is incredibly humble and does great things. I am glad that he encouraged us to stay open-minded throughout our experiences in healthcare.

High Points of Tuesday 6/16

-During the surgery, when the heart began beating on its own after being on bypass.

-Seeing how passionate Dr. Ryan and Dr. Hodakowski are for their respective professions and how willing they were to teach us.
