You’re smart, cunning, and your mind might just lean in dark directions… No matter what you do, it’s gonna be genius, and you’re not gonna get caught unless you want to.

You bide your time, making a master plan, preying on your victim’s weaknesses. You can find out exactly what their worst fears are, and make them happen. You’re a force to be reckoned with.

You might not be quite as menacing as I make you sound though, that could just be when someone crosses you that one last time. You might be a perfectly nice person until someone just pushes you a little too far.

Badass Baritone -  He is a manly man, and he has a manly voice to prove it. A character of this sort must fulfill two criteria: 

Obviously, the character must be a badass.

The character must have a deep voice of baritone register. Bass register is also possible but is rarer and almost always overlaps with being evil.

Ronin -  Until the abolition of the samurai class in Japan in 1868, a ronin ("wandering man") was a samurai without a master, generally due to the former master's death, the individual ronin's disgrace, or the destruction of his lord's clan. Without a job, an income, or a home, ronin could and would spend their days Walking the Earth looking for a master willing to take them on. It was common for ronin to take positions as yojimbo (bodyguards), mercenaries, or Ninjas. Others resorted to banditry or organised crime. Although in ancient days ronin were considered a dangerous threat since it was believed they were likely to become bandits, the noble ronin is a common hero type in Japanese pop culture, typically acting as a Knight Errant.

Born in the Wrong Century - There's a certain type of character who yearns for Ye Goode Olde Days, when things were more exciting, or simpler, or better in some other way. Or maybe they feel they'd fit in better in a time other than their own. Or maybe they're just history buffs and would like to have been around when all that history was happening. Maybe it's the romance they miss.  Or maybe the character is an inventor ahead of their time who just can't convince anyone that their crazy ideas could make a benefit for mankind, or a sci-fi buff who only wishes that all those stories about spaceships and flying cars were real, or a subculture waiting for the time when the world will be ready for them. No matter what the reason, though, this character feels that they were born in the wrong century. Note that this trope usually involves characters who live in modern industrialized democracies where they have a great deal of freedom and luxuries, which can make their nostalgia hard to take seriously. Alternatively, like in the page quote, these characters are people who would like to return to a time when physical violence was a good pathway to fame and fortune. Meanwhile, outside of science fiction and fantasy, characters like this are just stuck in the present day. Sucks to be them.

Taking the Heat -  A crime has been committed, usually a murder. In the subsequent investigation, Bob seems to be going out of his way to make himself a suspect. He may confess right at the start, or just draw attention to himself by refusing to co-operate with the investigators, even when it would appear to be in his interests to do so. Or he may not make himself known immediately, but will suddenly show up at the cop shop two-thirds of the way through, ready to confess, even though he's never been a suspect. Why? Because he's Taking The Heat for Alice. In a classical whodunnit, it will usually turn out that Alice is innocent after all, and Bob was acting on a misapprehension. (Whether Alice is more flattered by Bob's care or offended that he was able to think she'd done it will vary from case to case.) Some authors have gone for the double-whammy, where Bob tries to take the heat for Alice while Alice tries to take the heat for Bob, and in fact neither did it. Another variation is for the actual perpetrator to offer a deliberately implausible confessionso that everybody thinks that he's taking the heat for somebody else.

Warrior Therapist -  The Warrior Therapist is a master of combat who also took a few psychology courses to round out his education. How else can you explain his ability to perfectly guess his opponent's hidden desires, ambitions, marital status, and mother's maiden name just by watching them swing a sword at his head? A good Warrior Therapist will deliver a lifechanging motivational speech while he's pounding your ass into the ground doing it (See Defeat Means Friendship). An evil (or Anti-Hero) Warrior Therapist will use this knowledge to intimidate and unnerve his foes, gleefully deflating their egos and likely reminding the hero that they're Not So Different; sometimes to the point of breaking their wills entirely.

THE ARMOR

You arrive already assembled. Posture aligned. Voice measured. Boundaries humming quietly beneath the surface. There is no rush in the way you enter a space - only intention. People feel it immediately: you are not careless with access. Respect forms before familiarity does. This isn’t distance for distance’s sake; it’s discernment. You learned, at some point, that softness without structure gets bruised. Those who earn their way past the armor find something rare - warmth that chose to stay, not warmth that leaked everywhere.
