“Oh.” Olvek pressed his lips into a frown and gave an apologetic look from behind his datapad. “I did not mean to be the first one to mention this.” The problem was still there though. A little more carefully this time, Olvek noted, “I have heard... mentions. Not from Roekaar, but people around Aya. I thought it could have been a sentiment shared to them by the Roekaar. Still could be.”

That was followed by him turning his eyes to the ground and rubbing his cheek with one hand before turning his gaze to meet hers . “I will admit, your appearance on Aya did cause me a small bit discomfort more than that of the asari.” With a little hand gesture, he added, “But you look less like ascendants than the salarians. I’d imagine kett find them either unnerving or cute... If they can find anything cute.”

"I barely did anything for you," Olvek noted, his smile having taken on a more bashful note while he tentatively accepted the gift. Though, he understood what she meant. It was rude to turn away a gift, at any rate. She'd gone through effort to get it, and even wrap it up to add an air of mystery. The gesture alone was very much appreciated.

He carefully tried to open the present with as little damage as possible, peeling it open edge by edge. "Ah... So, what is it, actually?" He asked while he continued to reveal more of it.

Epiria made her way up to Olvek, cocking her head to one side. She'd figured that he was at work, but couldn't help herself. She, at the very least, wanted to give her new friend a gift. Said gift was wrapped, and in her arms. "Olvek?" She called. - ssvdromio {I know we already have a thread for them, and I'm not sure if it'll continue, but -- for the positivity thing??

It was a quiet day. Some patients still lay in their ion beds being looked after by Olvek’s staff, but there was horribly little to do once the administration had been done. A soft sigh left him as he looked over the familiar screen by his desk. Back to the usual humdrum of life on Aya, it seemed. That being said, it was good to be home again. His family was waiting to hear in person about what he’d done on the Initiative station. Over food and drink, of course. Not that he’d not missed Aya itself either. It was a beautiful place, though the Nexus was so new.

The shift had gone in for some time, Olvek checking on the staff and the patients, as well as reading through messages to pass the time. Where he usually payed attention to the door, at least enough to glance at it when it opened, he merely kept his attention on finishing up a message. Just as he hit send, however, the voice caught his attention and his eyes shot towards where it came from. 

A bright smile spread on his face as soon as his eyes met Epiria, him slightly leaning back to better see past his console. “Didn’t expect to see you at the clinic,” he greeted. “You’re not sick, I hope.”

Olvek let out a soft gasp at the mention of Remnant, his brows furrowing and a frown tugging at his lips. The mere memory of them was enough to make him recoil. He'd never been near any of that water though... At any rate, this wasn't good bedside manner. Olvek composed himself pretty quickly as the human finished his story. He pressed his lips together and rested his hands on his hips. "That sounds like it would've been frightening," Olvek noted. "It's been quite a while since I've seen a Remnant myself. Your people are very brave."

Curious eyes went over the rest of the human's features. He'd looked him over before, as quickly as one would any strange species that walked in, but it was quite a bit more obvious now with him taking a small step back to get more of the man in his direct field of view. "How does your implant work? We don't have anything like it."

The war was over. They could begin to make some of the food they used to eat. Foods many angaran didn’t get to even try one in their entire life. First, though, it was time to make more Milky Way food and attempt to adjust it to an angaran palette. A far more difficult task than some expected it to be. The shock of the latest experiment on his tongue resulted in a regretfully timed inhale. Now he was coughing, crumbs lodged in the wrong pipe. It stung, and he gasped in the small moments that he wasn’t coughing and gagging.

He snatched up a glass next to him. Another milky way food. He needed something to ease his suffering and try to dislodge the crumbs that were uncomfortably placed in the very back of his mouth after it at least successfully escaped his airways. 

"Sun above..." he gasped, his voice rasped.

I need to prepare a talk on health and disease prevention to the leadership of Aya. You know how my people are concerning illness. I'm worried their silence will get people killed. Some seem to think simply uttering a disease name will call it upon those who heard it. Of course, this also includes relaying information on cross-species fluid contact. We don't know which substances in all your people's bodies are safe. We were careful with the kett, for a time, but all the information we need on them to know if their blood or gas is dangerous was present before I was born. The kett are remarkably clean. They also decay slower, in some instances.

Anyway, I would appreciate if you could forward any information you have on your people concerning diseases and any research done on cross-species interaction. I've already gotten some useful data from Harihn. He has been very helpful.

“Ah... Hm. I hadn’t thought about it.” 

I’ve tried to come up with an answer for several days, but I can’t think of anything. Don’t hesitate to let him know when he’s done something uncomfortable? He rather know and be told to stop than have someone suddenly leave or act awkward.

Encountered Milky Way species, as discussed by Resistance personnel:

Asari: Once initial discomfort passes, they are rather pretty, most find. Their coloration is the most regular as well, seeing as many of our own people are also blue. Though, they have small heads.

Salarians: They are built strangely, but they have pretty eyes and nice skin. They seem to like blue as well, which is amusing.

Humans: They look like asari, but they lack a fringe, instead having “hair”. They are also generally various shades of brown. The humans possess males, as well. People don't want to touch their manes.

Krogans: They are large and lumbering. They have thick and rough scaling over their bodies. They have gravelly voices. They wear bones. They make odd noises when sitting down or standing up. We are uncertain if this is restricted to Drack, however. The females are softer with more shiny and rounded plates. They look deadly, but also approachable.

Turians: Very sharp. All angles. Very slim. Some thought they had suffered weight loss due to limited food stores until we remembered the krogans. They won't make it on Voeld, the commander said. Harhin confirmed this. The only species we have met with plating all over the face. Not even the kett have that. It's fascinating, though most say it makes them hard to read and thus difficult to interact with.

Of course, none of them are really ugly either. Well... That's subjective. Feel free to submit your own listing, as I find it interesting to see how our people feel visually towards our new neighbors.
