It’s been 2 months since the little revolt with Subject Rho, and for the most part he has stayed in line. He endured every hour on the examination table, every retry in the training room, every second being observed by those weaker than him.

But a beast can only behave for so long. Baxter had to keep up his end of the bargain, or he would have to deal with another of Rho’s tantrums. He sat in his office, staring mindlessly at his computer as he thought of way to keep Rho entertained.

“Should I... It may be too early... But I can’t expend them should he go overboard... And i’ve recruited enough staff for the Project already,” he muttered these thoughts out loud. Hoping to find an answer that would benefit him and Rho.

“Can you believe the Director?” A pair of security guards were talking among themselves, “Is he really going to start listening to those freaks?”

“I’m not happy about this little agreement he’s made with the Subjects either, but he’s gotta find a way to keep them in line.”

“I know a way to keep them in line. It’s called a bullet to head.”

“You ever seen someone actually kill one of those things?”

“They’re still human ain’t they? A gun’ll kill em like any other.”

Out to Play (Project Legacy AU)

Things of great priority were now set in motion. Baxter made sure that his plan started with very little hassle. Now that he had his Peacekeeper, the others could be put to other uses. They’re importance was now a secondary priority, and all new developments were about to begin with a simple social experiment brought to him by one of his underlings.

Sitting back in his chair, he contemplated actually doing this. There were obvious risks; rebellion being the main one that would difficult to quell. But his Project required taking risks. He sighed, and pressed a button on the intercom on his desk.

“It’s time we let them out to play. Send the Subjects to the Training Room.”

A voice on the other side came through, “Which Subjects, sir?”

“All of them. Unlock their doors, and send them to the Training Room. Now.”

There was a long pause before the scientist on the other side finally responded, “Right away, sir.” Baxter himself rose from his chair, and made his way to the Observation Room. He stood at his usual spot, in front of the window between him and the training room and waited for the Subjects to arrive.

“I need a status report on the Security,” Baxter was walking down a hall speaking to man in charge of the guards.

“Everything is secure sir. No intruders, and the Subjects are handled accordingly.”

“That’s all I need to hear,” Baxter says as he enters his office. “We can’t afford to be lenient after what happened 2 years ago. I will not go through that again.”

An alarm sounded throughout the whole facility, making many people stop what their doing. Security knew this, but one man instantly understood the meaning of that alarm.

“There is an intruder in the facility.” Baxter instantly rose from his desk, and marched through the halls. Scientists were rushing passed him in panic and worry, and one guard approached him.

“Sir, the intruder has been located in the living quarters. Our newest employee had someone smuggled in with his things.” He knew there would be problems with Shi, but for things to be this big...

The security guard busted through room, rifle raised at Shi and Ta’mir

“Don’t move, or I will drop you!”

Baxter, sat in his Office looking through the various reports his Scientists provided. Most of it was basic readings on the Subjects; their vitals, how certain experiments went, the overall growth of each Subject. He was only distracted once, by a Security Guard who had something important to say.

“We found the man you requested, Sir.”

This was good news, good enough to put down the reports.

“Good, bring him in.”

At the command, two other Security guards brought in someone. His arms were bound, and his face was covered.

“Is he conscious?”

“We were careful this time, Sir. He should wake any second now.”

The Hunt Begins (PLAU w/ the-broken-variable)

It took years, though not as long as it had the first time. With the technology he could recover, combined with new data constantly being discovered, Project Legacy was back up and running. A new location, a new team of Scientists, and new Subject. The only thing that hasn’t changed, was the man fortunate enough to survive the first failure.

“How is the new subject?” David Baxter asked a scientist staring at a computer screen.

“His condition is stable. He’s reacting well to the treatment.”

Baxter looked up from the computer screen, and towards the thing everyone in the room was focused on. A boy laying on an operating table with many wire attached to his body. His eyes were closed, but everyone knew he was dangerous. That’s why he was thoroughly bound. 

“Is he aware of his surroundings?”

He was so close the first time. Project Legacy would have been a success, and he would have changed the world... But that Woman.

That damn Woman

He walked down a corridor, his steps almost echoing off the walls. No matter how many reports his underlings gave him, no matter the kind of new data they could find, he knew the frustrating and apparent truth. He had to start all over again..

“At least this time, it won’t take as long.” The first Subject may have escaped, but the data used to create him, Baxter was able to save. 

“At the very least. It will be done right this time.”
