i really like to think that, especially in biblical vrs, loving castiel is an extremely spiritual and experimental experience. that is, because castiel doesn’t know how to touch, how to kiss, how to love. he’s foreign to the rituals of human love, because his experience is exclusively of divine love. his love language is servitude. he wouldn’t know how to love someone back in a way that doesn’t require laying down his life for them and fighting / killing for them. his hypothetical s/o would have to be extremely patient and not afraid of ending up sorely hurt (emotionally, of course) — because castiel, as a seraph, is a being that burns with a love not meant for humans, or only for humans as a collective.
