The child is here to hold Balan's hand.
Er, this child again. Did he sneak inside yet again? Someone gotta be letting him in--who?? "I believe you are after the candies from the vending machine again, yes?"

"Ah, he's back."
remember that one part of the modern au where Shane is sick with pneumonia and Balan was in a panic but trying to take care of his adopted son
shane at one point (i don't get sick), he suddenly stops responding and then insert jojo's next time appear.
In Balan's mind, he is reviewing all the medical articles he had read for fun and to pass the time and trying to see what the heck is wrong with his boy. Resolute himself to just take him to the hospital as quick as he can, and do something he is not piratically against doing but had never been in a situation to need doing it--praying. Pray that Shane is well and healthy. Pray that he does not have to see a family member miserable, or worse ... gone.
It will BREAK something inside of him forever if something had to happen to the boy.
...
...
His son.

It was that time of the week where Shane and Balan went on their weekly library trip on his day off. Shane had wandered away from Balan with an enthusiastic and joyful pace through the shelves and an hour and a half later, he returns and holds up a book to his foster father, hoping to check it out.
It was not like Shane needed 'rewards' to motivate him to do things--the lad was eager to learn and develop so there is little intervention could Balan provide. Still, Shane is a kid, and he require someone's guidance from time to time, and that's Balan's job.
There were a couple of things they agreed upon, and going to the library was among them. The head researcher watched the boy get lost among the books, happily--well, as happy as Shane can express. He found it a shame that nowadays less kids are inclined to be interested in books.
Anyway, Balan took this chance to look for a couple of books he wanted and sit down to enjoy a quick read while the boy find what he needs. It took quite some time before Shane came back with the book he wanted.
Clapping hands on his knees, he got up, "Alright then! Let's go check it out. What have you got this time, Shane?"

"Father's day huh? Wonder if Ren will give me something."
Sips on his coffee because he knows Shane does not bother with these days, and neither does he.
Expectation level is damn high!! He is expecting a gift otherwise he will whine for weeks.
" . . . " he is content with seeing Elle happy. give him a tomato pls.
text angeal "Happy father's day, Angeal!"
text tseng "Happy father's day, Tseng!"
he is just messing with them for the lols.
"Hello, Balan." Expression terse.

@broadswordandpistol : What? Uncle? Yeah, he shows up every once in a while. Go say hi.
"This scientifically cannot happen. Is he immortal or something?" also why he should go say hi? it's not like he misses him. wait, does that mean Alfred has to give him back his gun?
"My, my ..." does he need new glasses or he is seeing things?
