Field with a view....of France 🇫🇷 Did you know that although the Channel Islands are part of the British Isles they are in fact closer to France than to mainland Britain? They were part of the Duchy of Normandy and came under British rule when a certain William of Normandy AKA William the Conqueror invaded England in 1066. Henry III of England gave up his claim to the Duchy of Normandy during his reign and the King of France gave up his so the islands have remained a possession of Britain but have never been part of the United Kingdom. This means that the Channel Islands are self-governing and laws here are slightly different to mainland Britain.
