I was reading Seth Godin’s The Icarus Deception. He said to write something everyday and share it online so you can get better. I think it’s the same with drawing and sharing...so here my sketchblog begins!

Q&A with Seth Godin (part 1)
Big Idea Saturday
I’m finishing up Seth Godin’s recent book, The Icarus Deception. It’s given me some good ideas for the theme of posts I’m starting today. Saturday and Sunday, I want to start dedicating to Big Ideas and Goals. I hope to write about goals and projects I’m thinking about starting and progress of the ones I have started. I wrote about a few Big Idea/Goals I have for this year in an earlier post. Here are the following goals I have set. They will be the main topics of these Saturday and Sunday posts: My degree: Last fall, I started graduate school. One of my main reasons I decided to go back to the School of Information Science is because I want get serious about learning how to code and to get more technical skills. Now I need to figure out what my ultimate goals are for this program. What do I realistically see myself doing with this degree? Do I want to concentrate on a specialization or do I want to go a more general route so I can get a better understanding of all of my options? Ultimately, I want to move into a new career. What do I want this new career to look like? What kind of job am I looking for? Which courses should I take during the next term? I have many questions and I hope to solve a number of them right here. Our child and preparing for my wife to go part-time: My wife and I are expecting are first child in July. Afterward my wife is planning on going part-time so she can be home two days a week with the baby. The reduction of our household income is something we need to wrap are minds around now so it’s not a shock later. I’ve been working my way through Ramit Sethi’s I Will Teach You To Be Rich six week plan. I’ve gotten stalled but I’m dedicating my Monday posts to completing his six week course. This Monday, I’ll have a long post about where we are in the plan and what I need to accomplish during the week. Other then are finances, there are a whole list of things we need to prepare before June. The nursery: I’ve removed all the wallpaper out of our second bedroom and my office. I’m waiting for the weather to warm up so we can properly air out the house while we’re painting. I don’t necessary care about paint fumes effecting me but my wife and child are another story. My wife has plans for the nursery and I’m the muscle to complete the tasks. I’m also told that we’re going to need a lot of stuff. I we need to take classes and watch videos I need to find a new PCP and get a tetanus and whooping cough vaccination. In about two weeks we’ll find out if we’re having a boy or a girl. I can’t wait. My career: I’m almost thirty. I need to find my grove and start making my move. I feel like I’m headed in the right direction. I now need to commit and go for it. Starting a Side-Hustle: I’ve been talking about this for the past two years and I’ve been unable to get anywhere. It needs to be a major part of my life. I need to concentrate. Write a blog post everyday: A few days ago, I wrote about my Lenten Promise to write a blog post for the next forty days of Lent. Writing and shipping needs to become a habit. Run a marathon I was doing great with this goal, but I recently fell on some ice and I’ve been experiencing some significant pain in my hip. I’ve taken the week off and I'm hoping to get back into the workouts this week. I have big goals and events going on in my life. I’m going to be thirty and I need to start accomplishing them. Back to The Icarus Deception, Seth Godin has a paragraph titled, “Habits of Successful Artists,” it’s about how habits will help protect the artist against the lizard-brain and resistance when they try their best to stop the artist’s work. Here is a general list of habits: Learn to sell what you’ve made. Say thank you in writing. Speak in public. Fail often. See the world as it is. Make predictions. Teach others. Write daily. Connect others. Lead a tribe. I love this list. I thinking about turning this list into a monthly habit goal. Choose one each month and work to complete it every day because I need to start these habits. Many of these habits are things I always struggled with and need to get better at completing. I’ve already started to write daily. The other topic that jumps off the list at me is, Speak in public. I’ve been meaning to do this for years but resistance has always held me back. I’ve heard about the many toastmasters programs which happen around my city. Next month I should dedicate some time to go to a weekly toastmaster’s meeting. There are a number offered during my lunch break and there free (what’s not to like). There should be nothing holding me back. This will be my March goal. February: write daily. March: Speak in public.
Why Higher Ed is Ripe for Disruption
The average cost of a college education in the United States in 2012 was $22k per year at public institutions, and $46k per year at private ones. That's a fully loaded rate. For a four year university, that's means an education costs between $100k and $200k. 22 million Americans were expected to attend college last year. So roughly speaking, the size of the undergraduate education market is $500B-$1T annually.
Anyone want to find a way to get .001% of that market?
