Athena: share a piece of wisdom
Oh boy! Wisdom okay! I’ll do my best 😄
I have a favourite affirmation out of a set of cards my friend gave me that is: The door of opportunity won’t open unless you do some pushing.I guess something that I have learned over time, particularly since I started uni is don’t wait around and do nothing hoping that something good will come your way, because if you get out there and find a way to get involved in something that you love, more thing will come your way. It can be as simple as introducing yourself to someone. I’m going to use the example of theatre because that is my life right now. If you go put yourself out there people are more likely to think of you when something does come along and you may get offered something new that you otherwise wouldn’t have. when I started uni last year I went and auditioned for everything that was on, despite never having done an audition before in my life and being utterly terrified. As it turned out, I didn’t get into anything but because I went and talked to people, I got offered a position as assistant stage manager on one of the biggest shows that the student theatre has ever done. It was crazy and insane but I learned so much and I wouldn’t change that experience for the world. This all came about because went and talked to the people running the theatre and said I wanted to get involved, and now I am and it is awesome!!! so mainly I would say, if you want to do something don’t wait for it to come and find you, go and get out there and when an opportunity comes along grab it by the balls because chances are if you look back afterwards you won’t regret it and from it more opportunities will arise!!But equally important is don’t give up, don’t let failure and rejection define you as a person because if you give up you never know what you might miss. If I had given up after I didn’t get cast in any of the shows I probably would have missed out on a heap of things. as they say it is often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock.
