Application for Hanamiya Makoto
Sex: Male, asexual, identifies as such.
Power: Teleportation, more specifically, Move Point.
Primarily ;; Hanamiya’s mutation allows him to teleport anything he touches to a desired destination of his, a certain distance away from himself, in the blink of an eye. This ability is dubbed ‘move point’, where Hanamiya has to concentrate on the point of arrival of the object on hand. Hanamiya’s maximum range is currently 400 meters away from himself, and he can teleport objects with a mass up to 800 kg, although he will start to feel significant strain on himself if he tries to teleport anything more than 200kg at one time. Hanamiya is however, unable to teleport himself and is unwilling to teleport other people, because of a trauma that prevents him from using his powers on himself - stemmed from a past incident where he teleported in a dire situation, and in his panic and lack of planning, caused his brother’s death.
Initially ;; when his powers were awoken, Hanamiya was unable to control what within his touch he teleports, and when he teleports them. He was also unable to teleport himself. His range was limited to the distance of approximately 5~10 meters away (across the distance of a room), and his maximum load was only 10~20kg. It was only with weeks and weeks of secret practice was Hanamiya to be able to focus on the objects he touches, enough to not randomly teleport them away from himself. Out of curiosity, he tried to experiment with teleporting with live creatures - his pet cat, who seemed okay upon being teleported across the room, but died to a heart failure that very night. This was the start to Hanamiya’s unconsciously capping his ability at only being able to teleport objects, not people and himself.
Secondary (to be developed) ;; Hanamiya has to overcome his fear of failure and pain to be able to attempt to teleport himself. If he is able to put his trauma behind himself and succeed in teleporting himself, he can further expand the ability to bring others along with him.
Offensively ;; From young, Hanamiya has an affinity for throwing weapons. Not only is he able to teleport objects inside designated targets, he can also change their resulting orientation- this can most commonly be seen by how Hanamiya is able to “throw” his sharp weapons with pin-point accuracy. Instinctively, Hanamiya will search for glass objects around him and shatter them, using the resulting shards as offensive weapons; after he is accepted into the xbasu academy, Hanamiya will fashion himself metallic darts that resembles palm-length screws, which he could carry on him and use as projectile weapons.
Defensively ;; Hanamiya can teleport large objects (tables, cupboards, etc) around him and change their orientation to best shield him from incoming attacks. Ideally, being able to teleport himself away from the situation would be his best solution and Hanamiya could force himself to teleport if his life is immediately endangered, but the more he is panicking, the higher chance Hanamiya will fail to teleport completely, or teleport himself into solid objects.
Weaknesses ;; Hanamiya has to concentrate on the destination of his teleport, therefore any disturbance to his concentration will snap him out of it and render his ability completely useless. There is also a slight lag time between teleporting multiple objects continuously, and Hanamiya can be considered vulnerable during this lag time.
Born into the relatively well-off Hanamiya family, Makoto knew from young that he was ‘the other son’. His father was never around for him and his mother showed obvious preference for his older brother, but Hanamiya never quite minded being left alone, or pushed to the corner. Akira, his older brother by 2 years, would stand in the spotlight with his perfect grades and spotless achievements, but that shadow he casted gave Hanamiya free-rein to do whatever he wanted without any pressure to perform. Playing truancy, slacking off in the woods behind their mansion, all sorts of mischief. Besides, Hanamiya got along perfectly with his Akira, too. His mother was, after all, just one person, and it was easy for the young raven to ignore her just as she did, to him. She was, if not anything else, the main reason for Hanamiya’s cynical, arrogant, and rude attitude of disregard.
Perhaps he was a late bloomer, or his powers were just so unrefined that Hanamiya only first noticed them at the age of eleven. It was during a family dinner at a table Hanamiya always considered to be too stupidly long and cold. Akira, seated across him, had asked for the pepper shaker - and Hanamiya had barely touched it with his fingertips to find it vanishing before his very eyes, and reappearing beside his brother who, thankfully, hadn’t noticed. In front of their parents, Hanamiya was able to convince Akira that they had both mistaken the pepper for salt- but upon returning to his own soup, Hanamiya accidentally teleported his spoon away to the other end of the table too. Nervous, a little bit frightened and perhaps entirely excited, the young raven excused himself from the dining table, and went to his room in hopes to test his new-found abilities.
For the first few weeks after his first show of teleportation, Hanamiya was unable to touch anything at all, because whatever he touched, he teleported. There was no way he could leave his room without freaking everyone else out, thus the young raven had resorted to locking himself in his room for weeks in a row, yelling at anyone who tried to coax him to get out of the room. It wasn’t long before Akira would find out about his little secret- however, instead of fearing Hanamiya’s powers, Akira showed only marvel and excitement, and a keen interest to help Hanamiya improve his abilities. It took the both of them weeks for Hanamiya to finally stop teleporting everything he touched, with Akira having to spoon-feed him and all, but when Hanamiya was finally able to leave his room, he was also able to freely teleport anything in the house to anywhere else within the house. Their unknowing mother was, of course, completely disapproving of Hanamiya’s little show of rebellion, but to Hanamiya, her opinion was as good as nobody’s.
Behind his brother’s back, Hanamiya also wondered if he would ever be able to teleport himself or anyone else. He decided to first take the test to their pet cat- and although Hanamiya had successfully teleported the cat across the room, he had somehow gotten its blood on his hands in the process. Their pet cat would appear fine throughout the day, but would die to a heart failure later that very night. Although unsure whether he was the cause of the cat’s death, Hanamiya would end up unconsciously capping his ability at only being able to teleport inanimate objects.
Of course, not all good things are made to last. Shortly after his thirteenth birthday,Akira would accidentally let slip of Hanamiya’s ability to their mother- who, fearing for the fate of the Hanamiya family name now that there was suddenly a mutant in the family, would summoned their father from his work back to the mansion. It was halfway through the middle of their heated argument did Hanamiya finally realise the reason behind his mother’s contempt- that he was never her son to begin with, and his real mother- his father’s affair, who had died giving birth to him- must be the person he had inherited the ‘X-genes’ from. Standing shocked and frightened by Akira’s side, both young teens could only watch in horror as their parents’ argument gradually progressed into an armed fight- until Hanamiya finally panicked and took off to teleport a thing, anything, in between his parents in an attempt to stop them both upon seeing his mother return from the kitchen with a knife. However, the first thing he instinctively touched would be the window beside them, and upon teleporting an entire window pane between the two adults that would be shattered on the ground, Hanamiya effectively drew both their attention onto himself- that he was the mutant, the only monster in this room.
Now that his mother’s killing intent focused on himself, Hanamiya was forced to make a decision- to stay and be disposed off, or to run and give himself a chance. That was when Akira reached out a hand for him, and in all his panic, Hanamiya would lunge forward for it; teleporting them both out of the mansion into the forest behind. This would be the first and last time Hanamiya ever attempted to teleport himself. Although he was able to get away with teleporting himself onto flat ground, Hanamiya was unable to calculate his brother’s destination.. And he ended up injuring his brother gravely, whom he had teleported into a tree. Unable to do anything but to watch his brother bleed out, Hanamiya’s trauma would cause the raven to feel sick whenever he even remotely think of teleporting himself.
After days of wandering through the forest, just before he would collapse from extreme fatigue and stress, Hanamiya would be recovered by the xbasu authorities, who would’ve been notified by his parents that he was ‘on the loose’. When he next awakes, he would already be within the school compounds, but even if Hanamiya was unwilling to stay here, where could he go? He had murdered his brother, there was no way around it.. And where else in the world would a monster like him be accepted?
Hanamiya’s closet consists of simple T-shirts and slacks, but for the sake of appearances and personal preference, he usually wears a variety of jackets (sports, parka, and leather, just to name a few) on top, giving him a composed, well-dressed demeanour. Hanamiya enjoys parkour and resting in trees, and he dresses comfortably enough for him to move according to his will. If need be, he also dress in button-up shirts and tie, although Hanamiya would much prefer his usual outfits.
Ah, the xbasu academy. A place where no mutants should feel the need to hide- what bullshit. Tucking his hands carefully beneath his crossed arms, Hanamiya found himself stalking down the an empty corridor with a sulk permanently plastered onto his face, carefully avoiding the occupied classrooms on his way out to the backyard. Attending classes wasn’t his thing, neither was dealing with people, to be honest- and even though it’s his third year here already, Hanamiya was determined to hide his powers from everyone. Oh, of course, it was nothing personal. Only the indisputable fact that he was a murderer and his powers were dangerous, and as much as Hanamiya would like to, he couldn’t leave this bloody place by himself.
Couldn’t teleport himself away even if his life depended on it.
Why was he even brought here in the first place?
Bloody academy and their bloody rules- and all that bloody nonsense about making friends.. Of course he can’t make friends. What if he was to accidentally teleport the next person he shakes hands with into a bloody wall? Better play it safe than be sorry later. Besides, the academy was for rouge mutants to learn to control their powers, and Hanamiya was in perfect control. As long as he doesn’t touch anyone..
Deep in thoughts, Hanamiya hadn’t realise that he had habitually turned the corner- and, just his luck, he had to walk straight into someone who was travelling in the opposite direction. Fuck. Stumbling backwards from the collision, Hanamiya jerked his head up to glare at the person who had walked right into him, a hand habitually raised to his head.. Only to realise that he might’ve accidentally touched the guy. Fuck, fuck fuck fuck. Biting down on his lips to stop himself from retching, Hanamiya had to turn away sharply before he was finally able to spit out, “F-…… You okay?!”
Great, now he’s shouting, too. To hell with making friends..
