Maiko and geiko don’t attend ordinary schools. They have to drop out of normal school in order to start their geisha career. Instead, they attend special classes of traditional arts and, sometimes even English classes (so they’re able to entertain foreign guests).
In some cases, maiko are allowed to complete their standard education via correspondence school. Sometimes they even start university studies after they retire from their maiko careers.
