Betty Cooper was your regular Florence Nightingale. To see Jug come down with even a minor cold? This was unacceptable to her! She had gone straight to the store and bought every pill, liquid and vitamin she could to help him combat those invading germs. She also stocked up on orange juice and chicken soup - just in case traditional medicines didn’t go as far as one would hope.
Oh, and echinacea - just in case.
But he - of course, and at no great surprise to herself, refused to just be ill. He wouldn’t stay in bed, he wouldn’t take half the tablets she offered, he wouldn’t drink his orange juice… Though - he did eat his soup, which… again - no real shock there. The boy wouldn’t turn down a meal.
She groaned as she sat up and rubbed sleepy eyes; “You know you’re snoring now, right? Because you can’t breathe through your nose because you’ve got a cold!” She smirked as he pretended to scold him, getting out of bed to walk over to her wardrobe ( yes, she had managed to convince Alice to let Jug stay whilst he was sick ), and root around for something to wear.
“I had a plan too you know. But we had to stay in bed for it.” She beamed as she threw a look over her shoulder - one that suggested something far from innocent, but really? She’d tempt him into bed on the promise of a little sinning, but she would trap him there in order for him to rest.
“What are we doing today then?” She asked as she knelt down to free up his present she had hidden. It wasn’t anything big or particularly expensive but… The gesture counted.
“ Oh I am so sorry for disturbing your beauty sleep, Juliet.” He said as a small pout formed on his lips. She was observant and he knew she would notice all the small changes. She always knew when there was something wrong, she knew him better than she knew herself. Yet, he was aware that the snoring was not part of those small things, perhaps it was too loud and he woke her up. It was a shame that she couldn’t get a decent sleep because of him and he wondered why he accepted her offer to stay her. He would have been better at the trailer where he wouldn’t be disturbing anyone.
“ It’s not a cold, Betty. It’s a minor inconvenience. I am sure that by the end of the night I will be as healthy as before.” He said, voice full of confidence.
“ But where is the fun in that ? We can stay in bed every day. Today is our anniversary and we can do something special. I promise you that we can execute your plan tonight.” He stated, knowing what she meant. He had a plan and the bright smile on his lips made it obvious, he planned it for months and he wouldn’t let anyone or anything ruin it. Betty Cooper needed to know she was special.
“ It’s a surprise. Don’t you trust me ?” he asked as he raised one of his eyebrows. He hoped she would like the surprise, he finally saved enough money to take her to a place which was not Pop’s.
