Captain’s log, stardate 202005.09... 15/365 Legendary songwriters/ producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, throughout the 90s, often had at least two songs in an artist’s album- An uptempo number, that was often released as a single, & a ballad. I preferred their luscious ballads as they were written, arranged, and produced so masterfully and beautifully. “I Cry To Myself”, written by Jam and Lewis, along with the vocalist, Chanté Moore, and the late ‘Big’ Jim Wright. was one of those songs.
These lyrics are quite relatable to just about anyone going through life’s trouble. From a painful break-up to a loss of a loved one to a mental illness to whatever it is troubling you, we cover up our pain, and pretend to act we’re doing fine when really, it’s killing us inside. I can certainly relate to these lyrics as of late.
