So today we got a surprise in the office ! i got to try a fresh doughnut delivered to us by The Phat Doughnut Co..
These doughnuts are made by hand in Nottingham and then freshly delivered to your door ! You can order on the above link by contacting them on Facebook. They also have a stand in Nottingham opening on the 14th of July on Clinton Street Market so keep an eye out ! Prices start around £12 for a dozen.
Anyway lets get down to the sticky business. Doughnuts, i’m not ashamed to say ive had a fair few types and flavours, ranging from McDonalds to Dunkin’ Donuts and of course, Krispy Kreme. I was a massive advocate of Krispy Kreme for a few years before they had many places to buy in the UK. We have even travelled over 2 hours by car when we didn’t have a Kiosk near us. We practically lived on these at any special occasion buying by the double dozen. I like to think i know a good doughnut when i taste one.
To my delight we had to pick a doughnut handmade by The Phat Doughnut Co. , but what to choose ? my god the smell, the smell of warm sugary dough filled the room. The box instantly created a buzz, 4 people started taking pictures of the contents while each person was eyeing up which one to take !
I set my sights on the chocolate doughnut with oreo’s crumbled on top.
Size wise, this thing really was Phat, i could easily eat 2 Krispy Kreme’s in one sitting and i just about managed to eat the whole doughnut, for most people it could easily take you 2 sittings to eat, the photo comparing size really doesn’t do it justice !
So onto the taste… Wow, first thing i can say it wasn’t no where near as sweet or sickly as Krispy Kreme. You could actually taste the other flavours without being knocked out by the sweetness. This in turn made the doughnut a much more pleasant eat, the dough as mentioned by a colleague is almost “Brioche like” and has a fantastic lightness and stand alone flavour. The grease ? what grease ? doughnuts can traditionally be greasy and heavy, none of that here, Fantastic
Now, i’ve been to a few food fairs now reviewing bits i can find, and the fact i had a handmade doughnut delivered directly to my door today really blew me away. I wish i had a chance to sample some of the other flavours as im sure my partner and little boys would love them but it was me or them and this was one doughnut that was too good to share.
