Effects of Knowledge Sharing in culminating a Learning Environment
UPLB Devcom conducts Knowledge Sharing Activity about the use of Web-based information and knowledge for Community Development
DEVC 152 class of the College of Development Communication, in University of the Philippines Los Banos under Prof. Wini Dagli has conducted a knowledge sharing activity on February 26, 2014 about the use of Web-based information and knowledge on Community Development. This is in line to their current discussion about Knowledge Management and some ways of facilitating it in a working environment. Knowledge sharing, which can be formal or informal, is one important factor for effective Knowledge Management. Through knowledge sharing the organization are able to engage its members to direct or indirect changes, which can be deemed useful for the organization. Through knowledge sharing, an organization can make use more efficiently its members' tacit knowledge (experiences, innate skills and knowledge) and their explicit knowledge for the benefit of the organization. In the Modern society, it is deemed to be a new and resourceful way to create, facilitate and develop new knowledge and information about certain topics. There are many ways to facilitate knowledge sharing and one of it is the World Café. This is an informal activity where everyone is free to do stuffs to communicate the knowledge and information they have with one another. Here members are allowed to eat while casually discussing topics where any creative procedures are allowed as long as the members agreed upon it first . In the activity that Devc 152 conducted the students are able to use the “World Café” technique where students group themselves and draw the synthesis of their report in a sheet of Manila paper, which later are discussed in class. There are 3 questions by which members are tasked to shift and to disperse themselves to other groups, except one member (while maintaining at the same number of members). However, there is a member left to discuss the previous discussion to the new members for the new question. This is effective because it facilitates open yet close discussion for the whole class about that certain question. This is also a fun and engaging activity as members are able to draw and express themselves informally and to just share their knowledge during the activity. The results of the discussion were reported to the class afterwards.

Here also is a photo from Roxanna Samii’s twitter post- in relation to the activity we have conducted last time (The World Cafe).
Note: This is a different session, from a different setting. Yet the feedback on last Wednesday’s ( Feb 26, 2014) Activity are the same as these. :-)
