the deep white / the white / the “grey” or shallow white

the deep black / the black / the “grey” or shallow black

the world / the “grey” or the shallows

the deep black is where you’ll really find the lords in black. the deep black is the only place that truly is endless. not even the deep white is. the lords prefer it for their ability to spread out into their truest forms. the deep black cannot support even the most inhuman of life. even wiley will die if it enters.

the black is where richie and ruth are. the black is where lex falls into. the black not only supports human life, but in a way it welcomes it. the cages are comfortable and personal and maybe a little upsetting if you’re having a bad day, but the black is gentle with you.

the grey is the middle. where you fall when you don’t think. when you don’t wish hard enough. steph falls into the grey. max, ruth and richie will have to climb through the grey to escape the black. the grey is short and lame. it’s often called the shallow black or white, though the terms are interchangeable.

the white is where max starts out. the white is cruel, cold and unkind to anything but webby herself. not even hannah would have a good time in the white. webby doesn’t control who the white takes a liking to. cages are bare and upsetting on a good day.

the deep white has never been seen by the human eye. unlike the deep black, it’s protected by layers and layers of snow and ice covered trees at the heart of the white.

Your posting about ictd (I Curse The Day?) has got me incredibly intrigued. Is it a fic?

it will be! right now it's a small series on ao3, as well as a bunch of posts here on tumblr. im about halfway through writing the mainfic (which is titled out of the depths of hell!)

nesting dolls - i curse the day info post

nesting doll characters are another character subtype in i curse the day. they’re another rare subtype, slightly above the divine.

nesting dolls are characterized mainly by their cleanly split soul and consciousness despite having multiple souls in one body. whether these are souls that are the same person differs from doll to doll.

wilbur cross and uncle wiley are dolls, with wiley being the outside layer- the one you can see and speak to- and wilbur being the inside, trapped inside the body that wiggly created. doug keane and doug jameson are also dolls- where doug jameson is the outside layer and doug keane is the inside. wiley and wilbur are the same person on a soul’s level, doug and doug are not. they’re still the same subtype despite this.

nesting dolls are also unique within the subtypes. anybody, at any point, can become a doll, either as the inside or outside layer, without warning or pain. generally, dolls stay together until one of them dies, or the body dies.

nesting dolls are generally pretty simple: person a owns the body, person b sits inside the body, able to see the world and hear people speaking, but never able to have their own interactions until person a allows it. both halves of a doll can speak openly with each other and may work well enough together to share movement, but they can never melt.

wilbur, in this case, is the inside layer. originally, wilbur cross was just wilbur cross, normal guy. when WIGGLY took him into the Deep Black, wilbur was condensed and shoved into the inside of his own body and brain, frozen in time and unable to do anything to stop whats happening despite being able to see and understand what wiley is doing. wiley, as the outer layer, is the only part of them that can move or speak, including to eachother. wilbur and wiley are separate entities.

in the case of holly and miss holloway, it’s a little different. holly cross wasn’t found by WIGGLY, but WEBBY instead (as seen in ilaa,fwa), and she was less shoved and more placed inside of miss holloway. holly and miss holloway have relatively open communication, nearly to the point that they’re one entity (though if they did fuse, miss holloway would still be the “dominant” mind). still, holly can’t move or communicate with the outer world, though she can see it all much clearer than wilbur can.

the melted - i curse the day info post

subtype 1/7

the melted are a character subtype in the i curse the day universe. overall, they're the rarest of the seven subtypes, only including six characters- three pairs.

the melted are creatures of the black. whether they start human or not, all melted become permanently inhuman the moment they begin to melt, often holding their melt bond forever.

melting happens in the deep or shallow black, as well as in the deep white. when two people spend too long in the void together, their bodies and minds begin to fuse, called melting.

melting begins at the hand- one right hand, one left.

as it progresses, the fuse works it way towards the elbow and into the ribs, fusing the peoples arms not just to each other, but themselves as well. from the ribs it spreads to the hips and down the legs, until only three legs remain between the two people. when the legs have finished, the melt makes its way back towards the middle arm and shoulders, making final non-head connections.

the final stage of physical melting is a single body, with all features being averaged out of the original bodies.

mental melting is slower. it begins as the ribs begin to fuse, starting with vague telepathy and emotion transfer. as the hips and thighs connect, it morphs into full telepathy, as the people begin to project their thoughts to their bonded. as the upper arms begin to melt, it becomes full time mental communication, before finally developing into sharing a brain and mind as the head fuses. the final stage of mental melting is a full melt, where their souls fuse together and their thoughts are indistinguishable.

unmelting is possible, and painful. at least, its usually possible. in order for the melted to split, either both parties (whether consciously or not) must want to separate or something has to force them apart. for lower melted individuals (beginning stages- before the ribs fuse) even leaving the black or deep white is enough to cleanly split them, leaving nothing but a second or third degree burn behind on the affected skin. for higher melted individuals, something divine must start it. when the melt is complete, they're stuck as they are.
