MMJ Mix 017: ICY FLAME - I Ov The Storm

70+ minutes of warped electronica and intense post-bass/hybrid club sound design from the rising experimental producer. A truly stellar set recorded during one of the deadliest storms in recent memory which hit the artist’s home of Moscow last month.

“The journeys, as I like to name my sets, are always stories of self-transfiguration,” the sonic provocateur tells us. “But there are also deeper layers of meaning, ones guiding my urge to shape them.”

“They are born of dreams -- I treat sound as universal media and as a tool for creating new myths,” he continues. “I believe, that we'll get the world we imagine and not the one we deserve. Myth, being the incarnation of the outer reaches of imagination and observation, might heal the wounds and light a path.”

Instead of a heart, a scorched desert. Mirrors of my eyes are searching for the starry sky, but they often find torrential rain on the edge of blackness. I pierced the sun with the blade of my dreams and its liquid fiery essence burns my hands. After every word uttered will come its own judge. The meaning is hidden in the shadows, and will reside, until a word so loud is born, that the idyllic narrative of time will twist.

What do you believe in? Great truths are empty, as empty are images of Cause and Desire. But if everything is allowed, then whose voice warns against filth? A voice of reason, tired and driven, or is it an echo from a fire once burned in the chest? Rather, it is the song of those who were before us, who also discovered an untreated diamond of yet to be written story on the site of the Promised Land.
