MADONNA AND CHILD by @teenytinydinosaurfarm
JUST MET
You wouldn’t know it, but this broody hen just met these 10 Cochin babies, and now hopefully she will adopt them and be their mama. I got the chicks from Ideal Poultry in Texas, and had them shipped to CA. I picked them up this morning and grafted them one by one onto this broody Cochin hen who has been setting three turkey eggs. So far, so good. If the magic continues, the turkey eggs will go back to a broody turkey for hatching and mama hen will focus on raising these little cuties. Nice assortment, though straight run.
LOOKS LIKE A DUCKLING Another Brown Mystery Chick in the Crested Special from Ideal Poultry
Probably a Gold Laced Polish?

SILVER POLISH (?) CHICK
3 day old chick. Crested breed but I’m not certain if it’s a Silver Polish or not, has a fair amount of brown in its down. Curious to see how it turns out. The chick in front of it is a Silver Polish... Hmm. Cute little thing.

SILVER POLISH (I think) Day Old Chick
So I received a box of day old chicks today from Ideal Poultry — half are a straight run mix of crested birds and half are a "surprise" mix of standard size pullets. I HAD to buy them, really, they were on SALE. :) So flippin'cute.
RED COCHIN PULLET
Earlier this year I ordered a ton of chicks from a hatchery, they arrived in Feb and things went wrong from the start. Somewhere along the way someone gave then Doritos. But worse than that something was amiss, a virus or some such, bad enough that nearly all of the chicks died. I was powerless to stop it.
It was heartbreaking, so much lost potential, and all of the wonderful breeds — Spitzhaubens, Brabanters, Dorkings, Hamburgs, Sussex, Iowa Blues, Kraienkoppes — that I'd preordered in the fall, gone. This is one of the few survivors. She is a beauty.
Cochins hail originally from India and beautiful large birds. They are known for their feathered feet and fluffy appearance. Not the greatest of layers but they make great moms and are easy-going. I like having them in the flock. To be honest I didn't know that they came in Red, but it's a nice look.
POLISH CHICK about 1 week old
Not sure of the color - though it might be a buff-laced polish but they appear to be solid white as chicks, could be a red-crested red. From Ideal hatchery. Pretty thing.
