Who exactly am I to put such thoughts in your head and dare you to believe? I’m just as much human as you and I too have been in this very state of financial constraint. My family is one of doctors but I was born an artist. As an artist, I developed into a woman of many dichotomies; from logical, emotional, and creative to analytical. Just like most humans, I had my fair share of “mid art crisis”. This was the beginning of what I have become today. I was soon drawn to business owners and had a passion to help them succeed in their businesses.
Let’s face the statistics
All business owners like to think themselves as entrepreneurs. Being an entrepreneur does not necessarily translate into a successful business owner. In the US:
· Only about 4% of small businesses are able to make annual sales of a million or more
· Average small business owners in Los Angeles make an average $88,442 in an entire financial year.
· An alarming 61% of these businesses are regarded as non-profitable.
· 55% of business owners have an innate fear that their businesses could shut down anytime
From what I have gathered, the major cause of this fear among business owners is uncertainty. They are not sure if they’ll be able to meet up with the next bills. So they are forced to go on overdrive – they work longer hours and avoid vacations like a plague.
This is the story for many small business owners. I was opportune to attend a Steve Valcher’s Internet Profits where he shared that he was on the verge of committing suicide in 2013. Today, he has several multi-million dollar businesses. The road to success often starts with the understanding of what true happiness is and how to attain it. We can broadly define happiness into three types:
· Pleasure – this is often short-lived. It is like eating a delicious piece of cake.
· Flow – there’s a good blend of demand and challenges. It lasts a little bit longer than pleasure
· Meaning – this has the longest lasting effects. It’s like being part of something larger than life
I focus on the meaning part of happiness. This is why I believe if as a community we come together, we can help business owner achieve success with the right kind of happiness.
