Tomorrow’s the last day of LadyNoir July! I had fun and I hope you all enjoyed my random fills too!
Rating: G
Genre: General, Fluff
Pairing(s): LadyNoir
Summary: Years following Hawkmoth’s defeat (and that second one but no one wants to talk about that), Chat Noir asks Ladybug on a date. She thinks she knows what will happen, but there’s a twist.
Warning: No beta! Continuation from Day Twenty-Nine! Aged up!
She remembered this rooftop.
She remembered the candles, flowers, and petals from years before, but hadn’t exactly appreciated it then. She had been upset about missing ice cream with Adrien, but now looking back at how they danced around each other? It was so ridiculous.
… And hey, he brought ice cream today for their little celebration dinner.
“I hope you didn’t leave all this here from our collège years,” she teased, seating herself on the pillows he’d arrange around their blanket. The look he shot her back almost had her suspecting that he actually did, but then his agape jaw morphed into a smirk.
“Like I would’ve done that… no, tonight has to be purrfect~”
Opening the basket at his side, he drew out two plates, silverware, a pink bakery box with a very familiar logo, and two wine glasses to start – a fun advantage of having their little date now as opposed to before. White wine poured, he served up what was actually their chicken entrée which he was rather proud of.
“Your Maman helped me make it. Took a few tries, but I did it.”
“Wow, it looks great! Guess an old tom cat can learn a few more tricks.”
“Only for you~”
But no, also for him, but she giggled at his flirting all the same.
Ever since his father’s arrest and that brief stint with an almost new Hawkmoth, Adrien had been living relatively on his own. It took a while for him to be cleared of being another accomplice, and then he had to deal with the fallout of his father’s company. By a miracle, he managed to salvage it – it helped that he was his father’s son in some way, but a gentle and understanding soul like his mother.
Thinking of his mother, when they found Hawkmoth’s layer and her body inside, they had finally been able to put her to rest. His father’s testimony and what he had been trying to accomplish shocked Adrien, but he also understood the consequences more. He’d mourned for his mother and let her go; he didn’t want anyone else to suffer through that if it could be avoided.
There wasn’t a need for them anymore – not actively anyway, but they remained all the same. Even if there was no villain, people still needed heroes, super or not. They did their best and Paris seemed better for it, calmed enough that they could resume pursuing relatively normal lives.
Where would they go from here?
Tonight, they dined and made conversation as any other day, but Ladybug worried still.
Would this come to an end soon?
Swirling rest of her wine around her glass, she saw Chat Noir serving dessert and took a sip… but then paused when something caught her eye. It was twinkling – no, sparkling. Something shiny was embedded in her profiterole. Turning her head to look at it more closely, she gasped: a ring?
“Lady… no, Marinette…”
Head snapping up to meet Chat Noir’s glowing green eyes, she felt her cheeks warm.
“We’ve been together since… gosh, since collège. We didn’t know then, but we became best friends and partners in two lives which fortunately turn out to be one. But because of this, we’ve seen all sides of each other, sides that I don’t regret getting to know or falling in love with over and over again.”
He picked up her plate with the profiterole and turned it, putting the ring at an angle that caught more candlelight. “We’ve always said ‘Us against the world’, and after everything, I couldn’t see myself continuing to face the world without you. So, would you do a humble tom cat an honor? Of facing the world together as long as these nine lives last in matrimony?”
She didn’t know whether to cry, groan, or laugh because of course he had to make something so life-changing cheesy. In the end, she skipped the groan and covered her mouth as she let out a sound somewhere between a happy sob and laugh. When she managed to compose herself did she lower her hands to give him the widest smile she could.
“There’s no other kitty I’d rather face the world with. So, if you want me as your Ladybug…”
“Forever and ever…”
Lowering the plate, his claws barely disturbed her dessert as he removed the ring. And with her hand outstretched, she watched him slide it onto her gloved finger. It fit perfectly; she almost wondered how, but Plagg probably helped. The Black Cat Miraculous did adjust to its wearer’s finger size and all.
Seeing Chat Noir’s face beaming up at her with unshed tears, she cupped his face and drew him in for a kiss.
