I take back what I said about "I don't really get/buy Adrien crushing on Marinette after the wax statue moment".

Why?

I'm rewatching S1-S4 Marichat moments. Yeah that dude BEEN liked her. It's just so hard for him to read/express his own emotions as Adrien.

Again, more reasons why I need S7 Marichat. And a Gabe-Monarch reveal (preferably from Marinette).

Basically in S7 I wanna see how Adrien/Chat really feels about stuff and that requires:

Him knowing his dad was Monarch

Lots of screentime of him processing that as free-to-rage-and-throw-tantrums Chat instead of as Perfect-Son-Good-Boy Adrien

Bonus points if he gets to find out that Alya, Luka, Kagami, Felix, and Nathalie all know LB's secret identity. I want to see him pissed off at how unfair that is. Even though it's less dangerous than them both know each others' identity and one of them getting mind controlled by Lila or some shit.

Edit: Anyway, giggling, kicking my feet, etc. it's so cute how even early on, early-series Chat wanted Marinette to be impressed by him TEEHEE

I am honestly surprised everyone wants Marichat after this. Personally, I'm not comfortable with the idea of the person who has been gaslighted and manipulated this whole time going crawling back to the person who contributed to all of it this season. I'd much rather the show give Adrien a little more respect and let him prioritize himself for once, especially if his girlfriend is going to break his heart without even giving him a proper explanation while he's already incredibly vulnerable.

But I admit I can actually see this leading to fan-favorite Ladynoir. Adrien could genuinely start thinking Ladybug is the only person he can rely on now, and since Ladybug hasn't exactly shown much guilt over lying to Chat Noir (if I remember correctly) she'd be more comfortable with him than Adrien? So I can see how that could happen.

BUT despite how unpopular it seems, I actually think Ladrien makes the most sense.

Because Marinette feels awful. The kind of awful that settles beneath your ribs and refuses to leave, and makes you sick. She is haunted by the thought of Adrien alone in his room, hurting, carrying all of this by himself because she had been the one to put him there. She makes excuses for herself before transforming, more excuses for herself than even for Tikki.

"It's fine." She says. "I'll just check on him to make sure he doesn't get akumatized. He's really upset and hurt right now, and I still care about him. This is my fault, so it's my responsibility as Ladybug to make sure Adrien is okay. Well… as okay as he can be."

And Tikki just looks at her.

That look that says, You know you're only fooling yourself, right?

Marinette can't stand that look.

So she transforms and goes to check on him. Her plan is simple: just look. Observe him from a distance, make sure he's doing okay, and then leave.

Except the second her eyes land on him, she's done for.

Adrien has always been a magnet that pulls Marinette toward him like a moth to a flame. She could fight it, deny it, bury it beneath duty and responsibility and a thousand carefully constructed excuses, but it seems like she never learned how to stop being drawn to him. And even with all that sadness weighing on him, he's still so, so beautiful. So unbearably kind. And when he notices Ladybug, he forces himself to smile and gives her a little wave.

And Marinette realizes she fucked up.

Because she can't just turn around and leave.

Her hand tightens around her yo-yo, every sensible thought in her head tells her to turn around, to give him space, to let him heal without making Ladybug another wound he has to carry. But her body already betrays her, her limbs seem to possess a will of their own, carrying her toward him as though they had forgotten that a certain distance is supposed to exist between them now. As though some ancient, instinctive part of her only knows that Adrien is there, and that is enough. She's drawn toward his presence, she wants to be near him, wants to feel the warmth of his presence, even if she has no right to ask for it anymore. She wants to exist within his orbit.

And she knows. Every time she comes back to him with another flimsy excuse, another noble little justification dressed up as duty, she knows she is doing something so, so wrong.

She knows she is crossing lines she had drawn for herself.

Because, for all the guilt and shame and desperate attempts to convince herself otherwise, some part of her is just so hopelessly, helplessly addicted to him.

Like a moth returning to the flame even after it has already learned that fire burns.

Again.

And again.

Congrats Alya for officially becoming my 4th fave ML character (my top 3 are Adrien, Marinette and Chloe in that order).

Disregarding the fact that Adrien's drawing was actually quite good, I think its sad that he doesn't see his hobbies as "valid" enough. He likes anime, he's a competitive level gamer, he likes basketball, and while fencing + piano were things Gabriel chose for him, he does seem to enjoy them - he plays keyboard in a rock band for god's sake!! That's a hobby!

If he wanted a hobby he could share with Marinette, which later episodes imply, he could work with what he likes. He doesn't need to try knitting or cooking to look good - he could give her a tailor made anime recommendation list, or invite her over to play video games (since she is also at a competitive level), maybe he gets her figurines for games they play together, or he gets tickets to a convention and they do a couple's cosplay.

I love that the end result was him learning he enjoys running, but i find the idea that his previous hobbies weren't "good" enough to be an iffy message.

Note: I do think the show was trying to say he wanted a hobby that wasn't developed due to abuse (which all the above were, they were a result of his isolation) which is fair!! I love that they emphasized teens their age should be trying new things. I just also liked his earlier seasons' hobbies as well - we see that he's a nerd as Adrien which makes his nerdiness as Chat Noir more believable
