Issue 21 Conspiracy Theories!

Issue 21 came out today (took long enough), and once again, we have quite a lot to talk about!

After successfully reaching his lab, Tails starts doing some research on the Metal Virus, but he comes to the conclusion that he needs a sample of the Virus to really get anywhere. And so, he goes outside for a bit and successfully gets a sample for testing.

Meanwhile, Tangle and Whisper are helping people outside the lab, and Silver’s apparently in Ice Paradise Zone from Sonic Advance 2, so that’s cool.

Also, while all of this is going on, Starline goes to the Zeti Castle (which I guess is the Deadly Six’s new base after Lost World happened), and confronts the Deadly Six about them teaming up. 

And just like that, the Deadly Six and Starline are now best friends :3

Eventually, Tangle and Whisper end up pretty far away from the place where a shuttle is supposed to come pick them up (which I find weird because Whisper can just fly them there no problem), so they check up on Tails, who successfully got the stuff he needs to begin work on the cure! Woo!

BUT THEN (very dramatic), everything falls apart...

After all that work that Tails did to make a cure, he loses what he needs and is forced to escape with the Tornado.  I think this scene is really cool because of how it shows how Tails is really happy about being able to possibly make a cure, but then it all slips out of his grasp in an instant, leaving the entire world in even more peril. It also makes you wonder even more if a cure will even be made. I also realized that the solicitation for Issue 23 says that Sonic is still helping Tails get data, so this isn’t the end of Tails’ attempt to make a virus, and it’s confirmed he won’t get the virus himself until Issue 23 or 24 at earliest.

Oh, and you thought that was dramatic? Well, something else happens that will most likely make you cry...

The Tornado sacrificed himself to save Tails :’(

The Tornado isn;t the only one who died however, as it seems most of the Restoration/Resistance people also got the virus, and this will probably lead into the events of Issue 22.

Okay, so Issue 21 just got delayed for a third time all the way to October 2nd, meaning no Issue of the main series this month. Normally, I’d just deal with it and wait until the release, but looking back at things going on with past Issues like Issue 20 and upcoming Issues, I’m starting to notice a pattern here...

To those of you who don’t know, Issue 20 was actually pushed forward two weeks before getting pushed back to it’s original release date of August 28th, and the main reason for that was because there was some miscommunication about the covers. Originally, Evan Stanley thought she was going to be doing the A Cover, but Tracy Yardley ended up doing it instead, so the cover came out a lot later than most other covers do, not long before the release of the comic itself. Something similar might be happening with the A Cover of Issue 23 due to conflicting listings of who did it, and I think something similar might also be happening with Issue 21 due to us still not getting final versions of the covers, logo and issue number included yet. The B Cover in particular has seen two redesigns (mainly due to the design of Metal Cheese in Issue 18 conflicting with the original cover), so we don’t know when the actual final design of that one will come out. 

Another thing I’ve been noticing is that work on Tangle and Whisper seems to be going a lot more smoothly, as Evan Stanley herself said that the linework for Issue 3 is pretty much done, and we also just got another cover recently. Now, this one also got delayed three times, but it’s still evident that it’s having a bit more work done on it, leading me to believe that at this point in time, they’re probably prioritizing work on Tangle and Whisper over the main series. This might mean that both Issue 22 and 23 could also end up seeing delays, especially because there isn’t a whole lot of time in between their current release dates to work with, but it might be a little too early to say.

We got some preview pages for Issue 21! ...Despite the fact that we haven’t technically seen ANY of the final versions of the covers. There are provisional covers and some cover artwork that doesn’t include the logo and everything, but it comes out in a WEEK, so they have to do something about that fast.

Anyway, Tails made it to his lab in Central City, and Sonic’s on his way to Barricade Town (which is the town Rough and Tumble took over in Issue 3).

Issue 21 comes out tomorrow, so we got a couple more preview pages!

Honestly, when I first saw the bottom left panel, I panicked a bit and thought “AAAHHH TANGLE’S GONNA GET THE METAL VIRUS!!!!!!!!”, but then I saw the following panel and realized she’s okay. Besides, she’s supposed to be fine and Virus-less in Issue 24, so it wouldn’t even make sense for her to get it now.

Also, I’m not sure where this info is coming from, but I’ve been hearing that the Deadly Six are supposed to make their first appearence in Issue 21, and there’s supposed to be a place called Zeti Castle. Once again, I don’t know where we’re hearing this exactly, but if the Sonic Wiki puts it on their page, I’ll believe it.

EDIT: At the last possible second, they also released all three final versions of the covers. I don’t know if this is because IDW just decided to have the world’s most dramatic timing ever or if someone at the Sonic Wiki just didn’t get a hold of them. ...or they just forgot to put them on Issue 21′s page, which if so, thanks for worrying me.
