Jia was not exactly sure what was wrong with her and Daewon; it had been two weeks since they had gotten back from Chile, but he hadn’t called her since that intimate night they were together, the night where she had bared a whole lot more than her body for him. She had wondered if she had done something wrong, if she had scared him off. Did he only like how she was like when she was drunk? Was she too much trouble? Jia didn’t know. She had lost all hope of ever hearing from him again when her company announced her next project. Umbrella Tree Corp wanted her on the chain station. Something about someone dropping out at the last moment. It was fine, better than fine actually. She wanted to go solo someday, so this was a good way to get her name out there. It wasn’t until she was halfway through the studio that they bothered to tell her who she was working with; Danny from 1nferno.

How MSG and Koala T. had both agreed to such an arrangement did not make sense to her; it was a cute song, definitely cuter than what she was used to (clearly, they really had meant the song for someone else) and what she had sung with Daewon in her first ‘solo’, but there were still people who suspected them. Did they think the notoriety behind them would add to more popularity to the track? She wasn’t sure. It would not make a difference anyways; Jia was not the kind of person to back out after agreeing to do something. 

She didn’t see him until she was in wardrobe. A lot of pink and a beret, along with a cute skirt and pigtails. From the neck down, it was all very much her pre-Nightmare, pre-Medea. She felt like a teenager again, trying to avoid a boy because she liked him. She did not expect to nearly run into him, literally. Her cheeks flushed, her eyes going straight to his. It felt overtly intimate, her making eye contact in public. She blurted out the first thing that popped into her head. “I’m sorry I have to call you oppa all day today.”

“Are you a complete and total idiot?”

Admittedly that was a question Wei asked Danny more than once since they had debuted together. As the unofficial father of 1nferno (god, he hated that title), he was usually making sure his kids would stop injuring themselves for more than twenty seconds. Instead, he had gotten to watch Danny be featured on pann post after pann post with girl after girl. He was supposed to be the sweet one, the little daredevil. Instead, he was playing with fire and ruining the reputation if anyone believed the posts. Which, based on seeing a frazzled Jia exit his room, he definitely believed at least the ones about Gayo. Of course, he had not said anything until they were alone, now, in his room, with Junior, one of the adorable little mutts they were caring for. 

No one came in to Wei’s room without asking. Ever. No one except his roommate was allowed to do so and even then, if he could make them knock, he would. But, Wei wasn’t that much of an ass. He would however be lecturing Danny.

He wasn’t sure why this bothered him so much, aside from the fact that it was all their careers on the line. There was a knot in his stomach at the thought of Jia in the room with Danny. Ruining things. Fuck, why did Danny have to make such awful judgment calls? Did his parents not teach him any self-preservation skills?

He absently petted the dog, which naturally liked Danny better. Who did not like Danny better? He was cute, unintimidating, and did not look silly in a onesie. Wei, however, had a reputation for being a stick in the mud. Too sophisticated. Too charming. No fun. Not fun like Danny who looked more like a puppy than Junior.

Wei sat down on his bed, reclining as he sighed dramatically. What was he going to do with this boy? “I know you don’t usually think with your head or at all Danny, but you can’t be bringing girls over to our rooms. They are going to fillet us alive if you don’t get it together. I can’t watch them rake you over.” 

Wei could not watch them mention Jia and him in the same sentence. For their career. Of course.

Hojun doesn’t expect to be accosted by Danny of all people, much less with a demented Santa Claus figure staring at them. However, the smell on his breath is familiar enough that Hojun recognizes the reason almost immediately. Eggnog. Of course. Maybe he is feeling generous because of the holiday season, but Hojun just rolls his eyes at the giggling Danny. Then, he plants one on him.

For a really long time.

Maybe Hojun isn’t feeling so generous because all he can think about is how the next morning, Danny is going to shit his pants remembering what he did with Hojun. And it’s going to be fucking hilarious.

Some people might have expected that as only the lead vocal and lead dance, Wei would slack off or work less hard than the mains in the group. Nothing could be further from the truth, considering Wei himself was a workaholic. He always had been; that had surprised people, considering his family was wealthy. Still, his family had hardly lucked in to the money. They had built their conglomerate over generations and Wei couldn’t afford to be a rich playboy if he was going to run it someday. Of course, now that he was never going to set foot near that C.E.O. office, all the behaviors he had learned in preparation for being the future president of a company were ingrained in him. He couldn’t be laidback if he tried. So, there he was, on Saturday morning, in the studio, going over scales until the point just before his vocal chords bled. It was a fine line, but Wei was used to fine lines. 

Of course, when he had woken up, he had run into Danny and that had led to him dragging the fellow member of B.rite with him. At some point in time, Wei considered himself in competition with Danny, mostly because people would compare their vocal skills. It was the same with anyone in the group though, really. Unfortunately, Wei had fallen prey to Dannyn’s charms like everyone else. He enjoyed his company, much like he enjoyed the company of everyone in B.rite. So, it had become less about competing and more about being the best they could for the group. And of course. the other funny feelings Wei refused to name. Also, Wei being the generally busybody he usually was and making sure everyone got in some practice during the week, whether they liked it or not. That went double for Danny who needed a full-time caretaker, or else he would become a lost puppy. Or worse, a dog in heat.

“We should practice the new song again.” Though, it was a ridiculous and involved seeing him in animal ears, he could already tell it was going to be a hit. Mostly because people loved seeing them making a fool of himself.

dancing in the moonlight

Jia had not expected to find Daewon on set for a cameo of her newest kdrama. Admittedly, My Lovely Girl was not exactly a cinematic masterpiece, and the romantic couple was problematic as well, but she genuinely liked the project. Privately, she was pretty sure everyone would develop second lead syndrome, but the main actor was distinguished and always giving her tips, so she had quickly become comfortable around him. He was not a diva like other celebrities. Hopefully the respect she had for him would translate into enough chemistry to make up for the fact that she was playing a girl falling in love with her sister’s ex-boyfriend. 

Daewon had a lot of wonderful qualities, but acting was not one of them. His face was too transparent, though Jia frequently told him he was handsome enough to be one. He had his own variety presence though, and they were in the same company, so it made sense they would bring him along for a few scenes, a cute little Easter egg for fans of B.rite. Also, for their shippers, who probably had a field day when the rumors about them started circulating and their show needed all the help they could get. 

To their credit, everything had gone more smoothly since their moment during the film show. Of course, that mostly just meant they greeted each other instead of diving behind foliage. It also meant she was brave enough to ask Daewon if he wanted to take a walk along the Han River now that filming was done. He had been pouting while she filmed her scene there with her co-star and assumed it meant he wanted to walk by the water. He seemed like the kind to want to splash in it and the thought made her smile.

Jia hesitated as they began their walk, the moon full in the sky. She was wearing a mask, so there was little chance of them being recognized. Before she could think better of it, Jia intertwined her fingers with his. She cleared her throat. “So, what did you think of the set? Did you have fun filming?”

three’s a crowd.

on the set of a variety show, jinhwan tries to get between @idxdanny​ and @idxwei​

jinhwan clapped when the producers of the show announced a filming break, standing hurriedly and bowing to the other guests on the show with him. he was a bit sore from sitting for a long time, his knees and hips aching, but he knew that making a good impression on these sorts of variety shows was important, so he didn’t dare complain. although, there was one particular guest on the show who he wasn’t particularly careful about making a good impression with.

jinhwan glanced over at wei as he made polite conversation with one of the more senior guests on the show, making sure to keep it brief enough that the other wouldn’t notice. he had been angry at first, when he walked onto the set and saw wei there, just the sight of the other bringing up a host of unpleasant memories. but then, the smugness had set in. he’d gotten an opportunity without wei’s help— the same level of opportunity that wei was able to get. it helped his ego, knowing that he and the rest of xlnc weren’t as irrelevant as wei liked to think they were. what made it even better was he’d gotten it on his own merit, not as a handout or as a favour from anyone else. he didn’t have to rely on wei to get further in the industry— his own hard work had paid off and gotten him here.

and when danny had appeared behind wei? well, that was just a bonus. there’s no way that wei hadn’t panicked when he realized that jinhwan and danny were in the same room, with jinhwan knowing what he knew about wei’s feelings. but jinhwan wasn’t about to tell danny— no, that wouldn’t be satisfying enough. jinhwan had a much more gratifying plan.

he’d been keeping more of an eye on danny than on wei during the break, waiting for a moment to catch danny alone. when he saw danny move away from wei, presumably to grab water or something of the sort, jinhwan knew he had to take the chance. he politely excused himself from conversation with some of the other guests, moving to jog after danny.

“oh, excuse me!” jinhwan called as he caught up to danny, moving to stand in front of him. he put on his most charming smile, cute and disarming. “i don’t think i got a chance to introduce myself! i’m jinhwan, from xlnc.” he gave a quick bow, his bangs fluttering around his forehead with the movement. “i’ve heard a lot about you from wei,” he added eagerly, turning on the charm. he didn’t know how danny felt about him, or if he’d heard anything bad about jinhwan from wei, but he wanted to try as hard as possible to get danny on his side. jinhwan let out a chuckle, sending out a silent apology out to jia, wherever she was, for what he was planning to do. “sorry for chasing after you, but i couldn’t wait to meet you.”

roomates

Wei was not entirely sure why his roommate invited him to be on Roommates with him, except that it would probably drive the fans a bit crazy. He was always under the impression that Danny did not exactly like him, that he was a bit scared of him and thought he was a bit much. It made his heart hurt, but he shoved it away. Sure, Wei was attracted to him, everyone but Danny himself seem to notice that, but he made sure to put up a wall between them. It kept him safe. Still, he did like to consider him a friend. Or, at least, he liked to on particularly good days. Albeit, a friend who occasionally guest starred in some dreams, involving acts which he only saw in movies when he was in the dorm room, alone, usually with the lights off. Waiting for that special someone had been a lot easier before he became an idol, before he developed feelings, and certainly before he told Danny he was moving in to his room so he could keep an eye on the idiot. 

Of course, it made sense why else Danny would invite Wei. It was a dinner party and Wei was good at that kind of talk. Besides, he already knew his sister, Nina. In fact, she had definitely been flirting with him during their last encounter. It was hilarious watching Danny go into big brother mode and suddenly drag them away from each other. He wasn’t sure whose attentions he wanted, since Danny certainly needed plenty. It was probably a bit of both, honestly. At least he was not going to have to risk Danny mentioning Jia, sending a pit into his stomach. Danny probably wanted to pretend Nina didn’t even know what sex was, much less that according to the pann, Danny was having it left and right.

He spotted the Moons and immediately smiled at Nina. “Nice to see you again.” He winked at her, then turned to Danny. “You are not doing the actual cooking,are you? Because I did not actually eat before this.”

boys like boys

Get your shit together Hojun or you will never debut. He repeated that like a mantra, an albeit depressing one. Maybe that was why he invited Danny over. He liked making the boy all flustered and after the evaluation he got, he needed all the comfort he could get. It was not a fun evaluation, mostly centered on his lack of vocal skills and his two left feet. He had been nervous, something he thought he was beyond, but they were getting close to debuting the coed group, to deciding who made the cut. Hojun would be one of those people if it killed him. And possibly them. But while his dancing had improved, they were still expecting more since his last evaluation. Besides, he had been sick, though they did not accept that as an excuse. So, he brought Danny out to talk about it, mostly to cheer himself up. The guy was like a giant puppy. A cute puppy whose butt he wanted to pinch.

After pouring his worries out about the evaluation to Danny over coffee, they had started discussing American football. Hojun knew the rules; he was athletic after all, though it was hardly his favorite sport. Danny did not need to know that though. And really, there was no reason to ruin a fun day by letting Danny in on such a thing. Which was why he was currently grinning cheekily over Danny, their bodies pressed together on the ground. The football lay next to them, having been thrown out of Danny’s hands by an enthusiastic Hojun. He didn’t know what team Danny swung for or if he was even playing, but he sure as hell knew it was fun turning him just that red.

“I thought tackling was okay in American football,” Hojun teased. “Did I get that wrong Danny?” He knew perfectly well they were playing touch football, but made no move to get off his friend. In fact, he pressed himself closer to him, as if struggling to get off. Man, he needed to get laid. What better way to relieve the stress of his negative evaluation? “Maybe I’m not built for football.”
