“Alegra” is my depiction of a manananggal, the Philippine version of a vampire-like mythical creature; a malevolent, man-eating (preferably unborn fetuses inside their mothers’ wombs) and blood-sucking monster or witch. I took inspirations from Irma Alegre, a Filipina actress who beautifully played one in a movie, and also from the late Lilia Cuntapay.
