Here Come The Mummies
The moment no one’s been waiting for! IGetThatAllTheTime Presents: Great Bands That Don’t Get Much Tumblr Love (that aren’t TMBG.)
Here Come the Mummies!
That’s my photo! It was taken (I think,) at the Zorah Shrine Auditorium in 2014.
HCTM is a band based in Nashville. They are studio musicians with contractual obligations and to protect their identities they have assumed mummy personas (such as Mummy Cass(anova) and Eddie Mummy,) complete with back stories, and perform awesome funk music. They don’t speak unless there is music in the background, so if fans meet them after a show the mummies only communicate with gestures and grunts. It’s pretty great that they are fully committed to their mummy personae. They have some wonderful earwormy melodies, unique vocalists, and the horn parts are magnificent. They also incorporate latin and rock music into their Undead Funk. Their lyrics are very clever and use plenty of sexual innuendo and double entendre. Their live shows are packed full of energy and crowd participation. To participate and learn a new dance, look up the song “Fenk Shui.” I love this band so much. I’m not ashamed to admit that at one time I had most of their concert DVD Rejuvannihilation memorized and would play along on my Viper in my living room complete with choreography.
Some of my favorite (less raunchy, safe for kids and work) songs are “Freak Flag,” “Fate,” “Ugly,” “Viral,” “Devil Better Run,” and “Sleeve.” Okay, so “Sleeve” has a bit of raunchiness, but it can be taken at face value when needed. That’s HCTM’s thing.
Here is Freak Flag. The lyrics are inclusive and positive and relatable! They have a literal freak flag and fly it while riding a tricycle.
That’s me with Java (pronounce Jay-Vah) He left the band about 3 years ago and this is the last show I saw that included his performing. October 2015. This is my favorite picture I have with one of the mummies.
This one is called “Ra Ra Ra.”
The Mummies also have a CD/DVD of songs for kids. For that project, they are called The Tiny Tuts. They have songs about triangles, sharing, staying fit, history, and my favorite, “Don’t Lick It,” which basically educates on the dangers of eating random things you find on the ground. Sadly, I can’t find any of the videos on youtube.
This has been IGetThatAllTheTime Presents: Great Bands That Don’t Get Much Tumblr Love (that aren’t TMBG.) Go give the Mummies some love, and let me know if it was good for you. ;)
Played on 6 string Viper violin.
Where ya goin’ buddy?

I spent 10 minutes after making the gif editing the timing so it would haha
It's the way you swing your head while strolling fancy free.
