A Late Birthday Celebration - Starter
@ihaveadifferentfinalrequest
Helen had been on a mission to the surface for most of the last two weeks. Several things had simply gotten out of hand and taken a lot of cleaning up after, resulting in her arriving home about a week later than planned. Not only had she missed him terribly, but she felt horrible for having missed his birthday.
She arrived home in the wee hours on Saturday, and was careful not to be heard as she slipped into their room. She didn’t stay, simply left a note for him to find when he woke up.
“Meet me on the roof...”
‘ you know how many pints of blood the human body has? the answer is ten. ten pints. ’ (So, this was the perfect one for Niko?? )
“Yup, and this guy looks like he’s lost about eleven of them.” Scarlett knelt down to study the body further. He was eerily pale (except for the parts of him splattered with red) and the fear of his final moments still registered on his face. “Clearly in distress, but no signs of struggle other than the bruising on his wrists- looks like he was tied up. Must’ve taken him by surprise; a guy his size would’ve been hard to take down in an outright attack. Can’t see any bite marks, so that rules out vampires- no offense- but…” She paused to peel back the collar of his grisly shirt, “… Clean slit across the neck. The blood-draining, the hog-tying, the slit throat- I’m thinking this was some kind of ritualistic killing. Any thoughts, Watson?” she asked Nikola with a grin. She probably shouldn’t be grinning at a murder scene. She was still grinning at a murder scene.

She was finishing making some arrangements to go to the surface on a mission next week. Hanging up her cell phone, she pushed it into her pocket and entered the lab to look for Nikola.
“I have to go to the surface for a few days, seems Declan’s heard from the Zagreb Sanctuary that they’ve gotten word of some sort of hybrid abnormal bear terrorizing a village. “ A few small Sanctuary locations had been established in Europe over the several years following their move to Hollow Earth; in small places where SCIU and SCIU-allies weren’t as likely to go poking around.
“I thought you might like to come with me.”

So, maybe she lacked Nikola’s seemingly boundless poetic creativity, but she did have a few tricks up her sleeve to offer her husband a bit of a relaxing evening to the two of them.
She knew he had been holed up in the lab most of the day working on something with Henry, but she also knew he’d probably come looking for her in her office when he was done.
When he arrived there, however, she was not there. On her desk were two empty wine glasses and a note.
A very lovely, if streamlined and simple, notecard containing simply a brief instruction:
meet me up on the roof -- I’ll be waiting for you with something to use these glasses, so bring them.
HG Wells, Nikola Tesla, and Root, playing a game of Cards Against Humanity... This could get VERY interesting...
