2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season Summary

I don’t know either, this is my hyperfixation and I figured tumblr was the best place for my chaos.  ACE (Accumulated Cyclone Energy) Score: ~95.1 Units (near normal)

This is the lowest ACE Score for this decade and the first season to be classified as “near normal” since 2007. 

Major Hurricanes: 2

Hurricanes: 8

Named Storms: 14

Depressions: 16*

*One tropical rainstorm was briefly classified as “Potential Tropical Cyclone 4″ in late August, this never reached Depression Wind Speeds and is forever known as PTC 4

This is the first year since 1997 in which no Tropical Storms formed in August, this is also the first time this happened in a La Nina year. 

This is also the first year without a pre-season nameable storm since 2014.

Total Damage estimates: >56.65 Billion USD (2022)

Strongest Storm (Barometric Pressure): Hurricane Fiona (932 mbar)

Strongest Storm (Wind Speed): Hurricane Ian (155 mph/250 kph 1-min sustained)

Longest Lasting Storm: Hurricane Fiona (9.5 days)

Crossover Storms (Crossed into the Eastern Pacific Basin): Tropical Storm/Hurricane Bonnie and Hurricane/Tropical Storm Julia
