The Carvilio ring.
The face of the patrician Carvilius Gemellus who died at the age of 18 and was poisoned with arsenic.
This ring was worn by his mother, the Roman matron Aebutia Quarta in a 1st century tomb, found near Rome (Grottafferrat).
A craftsman carved the young man's face in miniature in a gold frame. The glass amplifies the miniature creating a three-dimensional effect.
