Sammy is standing in the garden, his garden; or the little patch at the corner of the yard that Billy didn’t mind he play in: tall grass, a single sunflower, and a little bush that Billy insisted was a patch of weeds. But Sammy liked it nonetheless and would never remove the stumpy leaves no matter how many times his brother told him to.
A quick movement from the corner of his eye catches the little boy’s attention. Innocent eyes sparkle as they catch the butterfly that had just landed, rosy cheeks widening in a goofy smile.
“Hello, Rainbow.” Little pudgy fingers reach out for the vibrant wings that slowed their flutter. Sammy won’t touch the creature, just get close. Unless it wanted to hop to him. Billy always said it was a different butterfly that came to the garden every time. But Jane said not to worry. You’re such a sweet boy, I doubt anything else than Rainbow wanting to visit you each day.
Far too distracted by his own little world and established animals friends, the little boy didn’t notice the guest approaching at their gate.
